Today we are quickly interested in the content of the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series set 75341 Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder, a large box of 1890 pieces which will be available as a VIP preview from May 1, 2022 at the retail price of €199.99.

Was it absolutely necessary to decline in UCS format (Ultimate Collector Series) this vehicle which is ultimately nothing more than a futuristic car used in a few scenes of Episode IV? Diehard fans of the Star Wars universe will think so where others will consider that the machine was not worth so much effort, especially after the multiple LEGO versions on a more modest but often convincing scale marketed over the years.

We can indeed be satisfied with the versions delivered in the various playsets and conclude that this vehicle is certainly emblematic of the saga but that this imposing version of about fifty centimeters long of Luke's wheelless convertible does not have much something to offer in terms of finishes.

The assembly of the 49 cm long by 30 cm wide and 17 cm high vehicle is entertaining without being incredibly rich in various and varied techniques. The interior of the bodywork is filled with stacked colored parts, the curves are based on very large elements and flexible hoses that will have to be handled with care so as not to deform them or worse mark them with a pinch which will remain visible by the suite and there is only the cockpit and the reactors to offer a little challenge of construction and detail to the model. I won't spoil the different stages of construction for you too much, I leave the discovery of the techniques used for the engines or the cockpit to those who will spend the 200 € requested.

The cockpit bubble is new and we can applaud LEGO's efforts to protect it by carefully wrapping it in a piece of transparent plastic. It is the second product to offer this valuable precaution after the windshield of the set 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine, I think we can now take for granted the fact that LEGO has taken note of the comments made for years about the scratches present right out of the box on these transparent parts.

You guessed it thanks to the official visuals, this top-of-the-range exhibition product which targets a demanding adult clientele does not escape a very large handful of stickers. The designers invoke the possibility of giving a "worn" effect to the front of the vehicle thanks to these stickers which add colored areas impossible to reproduce identically with plastic parts.

The rest of the sheet of stickers is used to decorate the engines, to dress the central console of the cockpit and to make the connection between the tubes and the cabin. The most picky can do without these different stickers, the vehicle will lose a little in finish but seen from afar it will keep its lines and colors globally faithful to the reference machine.

Regarding the color of this Landspeeder, you will have to be indulgent or choose sides. The central engine and its support are not gray on the screen in certain scenes, they are the same color as the two other side engines whose air intakes are chrome and a little rusty.

Based on another scene, the color of the machine in the LEGO version is a little closer to the version seen in the film. Some may find the LEGO version a little too colorful for their taste, but it's not every day that the manufacturer offers us a UCS whose dominant color is not gray or white and this product will bring a little visual variety on our shelves.

As for the vehicle's proportions, we could also discuss LEGO's choices: even if the whole thing, at 1:7 scale if we take into account the real length of the speeder, seems very faithful to the various sketches and photos available in line, the front here seems a little too long compared to that of the vehicle seen on the screen. Those who are looking for an excuse not to spend the 200 € requested by LEGO will therefore have something to argue about. The others will do with this aesthetic approximation, a few centimeters more do not change much and we recognize the Landspeeder X-34 concerned at first glance anyway.

The set is generally solid and easy to handle and the three reactors can possibly be removed to store and store the construction when it has taken the dust between the many visible tenons of its surface or when another model deserves the honors of your shelves. . There are still a few weak points here and there, you will have to regularly check that you have put back in place the few parts that only hold on one or two studs.

The support to be built is in the spirit of those usually provided by LEGO for this type of product and two well-identified notches are provided under the Landspeeder, you cannot miss them. The whole is stable, no risk of everything tipping over.

This set is a pure display product, so LEGO adds a presentation plate which distills us as usual some facts techniques about the craft. The sticker is still just as difficult to place correctly on the plate and everyone will have their own technique to obtain an acceptable result. As far as I'm concerned, I spray a little glass product on the plate before placing the sticker, which remains vaguely repositionable while the whole thing dries.

Two minifigs frame the presentation plate: Luke Skywalker and C-3PO. The Luke figurine is not new, it combines elements already seen in other boxes for years: the head present in eight different sets dates from 2015 with the set 75093 Death Star Final Duel, legs and torso have been delivered in half a dozen boxes since 2014 after first appearing in sets 75052 Mos Eisley Winery et 75059 Sandcrawler then in the Advent calendar of the same year.

C-3PO reuses the head available since 2012 and delivered for the first time in the set 9490 Droid Escape, the torso which is also available in the set 75339 Death Star Trash Compactor and he benefits here from a new pair of legs with injection in two colors of the right leg. LEGO goes the extra mile here compared to the pair of legs in the set 75339 Death Star Trash Compactor which is satisfied with two pad-printed gray areas, it is very successful.

For those who would have a little trouble understanding the presence of this metallic leg, C-3PO does have a gray right half-leg in the Original Trilogy. Need we repeat it once more: the machine is obviously not on the scale of the minifigs, the two figurines are purely decorative.

The Landspeeder is for many fans an emblematic vehicle of the saga: more than a big gray ship that evolves slowly in space, this car without wheels amazed a whole generation of fans who discovered in the 80s the Star universe Wars and Nostalgia does its job.

Even though the saga is full of great ideas for futuristic vehicles, this one is still a must-have that will set anyone who remembers their reaction to seeing Luke Skywalker hurtling through the dunes of the Tatooine desert on board. .

To each his own DeLorean or his Batmobile, the Landspeeder X-34 is also one of those mythical "cars" that mark you for many years. This is my case and I will therefore be in the starting blocks from May 1st.
