On the minifig side, LEGO is not very generous on this set.
The Admiral  Firmus Piett with his Southerner cap and his face borrowed from the minifigure of Professor Snape (Harry Potter) is not revolutionary.
Darth Vader only worth the brick with its Sidious hologram.
boss , well Bossk what ... already seen in the set 8097 Slav I.
Dengar is quite successful and radically different from the visual seen on the poster mentioned in this news. The mixture of brown and white colors makes it much better than the gray that we had seen.
L'GI-88 with its screen-printed head is a nice evolution in the range of assassin droids (see this news).

TLC was quick, the official announcement of set 10221 took place today and the photos in the box posted on flickr have miraculously disappeared (Fortunately Hoth Bricks directly hosts all of his photos ...).

We are entitled to a slew of visuals on which we can discover this set from all angles. In the end, this set, visually impressive from certain angles, reveals its weaknesses, especially when we see the underside of the machine which is severely lacking in finish.

I'll let you make up your own mind, and decide if you'll spend € 399.99 on this set, by clicking on the photos to view a large version.

kurt legoAfter the visuals of the box, here is the video made in TLC of this set 10221 Super Star Destroyer. We find Kurt, the designer who designed this model and who should attract the wrath of purists, who announces that this set will be available for sale on September 1, 2011 on the LEGO Shop and in official LEGO stores.

We obtain confirmation of the specifications of the machine, namely 124.4 cm long, 3.5 kg and 3152 pieces. The 5 minifigs provided are therefore Darth Vader, Admiral Piett, Dengar, Bossk & IG-88.

The friend Kurt explains to us that he tried to respect the design of the original ship seen in episode V: The Empire Strikes Back both from the point of view of the angles and the profile.

He reveals that this model is the longest ever made by LEGO, and he thinks fans will love this set because it is the first "official" version of this contraption. He insists on the greebs of the upper part and he presents the mini "Command Bridge" hidden under the greebs in which you can stage [store] the supplied minifigs.
Finally, the friend Kurt announces that he is very proud of the result obtained after wondering how he was going to be able to design this machine.

avengers license
The information went around the forums of the planet: LEGO was invited by Marvel Studios, like more than a hundred other manufacturers of licensed products (Hasbro, THQ, ...), on the set of the filming of movie The Avengers directed by Joss Weldon and scheduled for release in May 2012.

Some AFOLs have [too] quickly interpreted this presence of LEGO as the beginning of a future LEGO Avengers range ....
If nothing has been officially announced to date, and probably will not be for a long time, one can easily imagine that LEGO, Marvel which holds the rights and Disney which produces the film, would be interested in the commercial potential of such a license.
Disney, which bought Marvel Entertainment in 2009 for the modest sum of $ 4 billion, knows only too well that LEGO is capable of generating a lot of cash with its licenses, as with the Pirates of the Caribbean and Prince of Persia ranges.
In addition, LEGO has already touched the super heroes with the ranges Batman (DC) in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and Spiderman of 2002 2004 to.

But let's not forget that MEGA Brands already has licenses in its MEGA Blocks range. Iron Man 2 et Marvel, and one can wonder if Disney / Marvel will accept the idea of scattering on directly competitive products with the fans. Whatever the French AFOLs say, MEGA Brands figures are compelling to licensees. As proof, the Canadian manufacturer has just signed a partnership with Blizzard, and renews its agreement with Microsoft for the HALO range.

In this context, we can fantasize about a range of LEGO Avengers, the minifigs of Captain America, Hulk, or Iron Man that would result from it, and the pleasure for AFOLs to find their favorite super heroes in a series of sets based on the Marvel films to come up.
We will also note the many custom minifig creations proposed by fans on the theme of super heroes with in particular the work of tin7_creations visible here in his flickr gallery.

But are today's children fans of superheroes about whom they know next to nothing because of films that are too violent and attentive parents (Batman The Dark Knight, Iron Man 2) or cartoons that are too rare on television ? What is the real commercial potential of such a license for LEGO?
We'll probably know more in the next Comic Con to be held in San Diego from July 21 to 24, 2011 ...

In the meantime, I suggest you below the movie poster with minifig sauce created by Justin fung alias tin7_creations...

And it's all over again about the set 10221 Super Star Destroyer with these photos of the box published by Nannan z on his flickr gallery ....

And as I expected, it will be a playset with removable bridge to recreate the scene of the meeting between Vader and the Bounty Hunters. No mention of Ultimate Collector Series on this box (which could only be a preliminary version) which therefore contains 3152 pieces, measures 124.4 cm long and whose back has the removable part of the upper deck giving access to a small playable space ( !!).

Strangely, the back of the box has three sets, the 10198 Tantive IV released in 2009, 10212 UCS Imperial Shuttle released in 2010 and  10215 UCS Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter also released in 2010. We don't quite understand what the 10198 set does here, even if it is a playset halfway between the System sets and the UCS versions in terms of its size and number of parts.

Note that Darth Vader holds a hologram brick with a priori Darth Sidious and that the mini ISD accompanying this Super Star Destroyer is a little "light".
