If you enjoy freebies that you can get without spending a penny, you should know that a new promotion is planned for LEGO Stores in September 2026. You'll be able to get a very basic, but free, miniature Hogwarts set. That's all you'll have to do, though; you can't have your cake and eat it too.

As is typical with this type of no-purchase-necessary promotion, expect to find a few people in LEGO Stores before the launch of the operation, because it's free and it's also Harry Potter themed.

The offer is limited to one product per person, on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limited quantity available each day. Don't be intimidated by AFOLs who will try to leave with multiple items; don't push, don't step on the children, and pass on the left.

This offer only applies to LEGO Stores directly managed by LEGO, not to franchised Certified Stores managed by Percassi.

Today we're taking a quick look at the contents of the LEGO 40901 Ministry Munchies & The Daily Prophet Stands promotional set , a small box of 152 pieces that will be offered on the official online store with any purchase of €130 or more of Harry Potter products from August 29 to September 6, 2026.

Let's be honest, taken on its own, this promotional product doesn't have much to offer. What it represents is taken out of context, and the two included figurines aren't worth getting up in the middle of the night for.

This product only makes full sense when combined with the contents of set 76476 The Ministry of Magic - Collectors' Edition (€429,99) and even if it will take a little force to install the different elements of the small box within the Atrium of the large diorama, the complementarity between the two products is obvious.

LEGO may have decided that this extension of the large set should not be reserved for purchasers of the latter; why not, an order of at least €130 in products from the Harry Potter range will be enough to obtain the small box and then wait until the large one is offered elsewhere than at LEGO at a more attractive price.

This small box contains everything you need to assemble the Fountain of Brotherhood with its statue, which logically matches the one already present in the Ministry of Magic, the newspaper vendor's stand that makes a very brief appearance on screen when Harry Potter arrives at the location, and the pastry stand set up near the fountain provided in this box and seen in the film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

The two included figures recycle elements already seen elsewhere in LEGO: the newspaper vendor's torso is also that of Martin Brody in the LEGO IDEAS 21350 JAWS set and that of Minister Cornelius Fudge is also that of Bruce Wayne, Barty Crouch or even Norman Osborn.

For those who might be wondering, the pad-printed Tile of The Daily Prophet newspaper delivered here in three copies is far from new, it has existed since 2022, the year in which it was supplied in set 76408 12 Grimmauld Place and it was also delivered in 2023 in set 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors' Edition.

This extension of the large set should easily find its place in the Atrium of fans who will make the effort to pay the large box at its public price from its launch; it is a nice promotional product that does not serve much purpose on its own but will allow to fill a little of the empty space in the Ministry.

LEGO Star Wars fans had the same type of "complementary" product in their time with the 40771 TIE Fighter with Imperial Rack set , which filled a gap in the hangar of the 75419 Death Star set (€999,99). They can now welcome Harry Potter fans who will also have their own extension, which we can perhaps do without, but which we will undoubtedly regret one day having missed.

Today we are very quickly interested in the contents of the LEGO Harry Potter set 76476 The Ministry of Magic - Collectors' Edition, a box of 3491 pieces which will be available from August 29, 2026 at a public price of €429,99.

Under the Collector's Edition label since 2021, but also without this designation in previous years, LEGO regularly releases large sets that are generally designed to appeal to fans and collectors keen to display detailed constructions, perhaps bypassing the plethora of diverse playsets sold the rest of the year. This new set thus adds to an already substantial collection that began in 2018.

While the dedicated fan of the Harry Potter universe and LEGO is able to imagine the many scenes, places, or vehicles that he believes deserve to be immortalized through a few plastic bricks, it must be acknowledged that the potential is limited if we consider the perspective of a more casual fan who will gladly be satisfied with the castle and the train, considering the rest as dispensable.

This model of the Ministry of Magic will undoubtedly fall into this latter category for many fans, given that LEGO's interpretation also involves a certain artistic bias that will not suit everyone.

This isn't the first time LEGO has attempted to interpret the Ministry of Magic; collectors will remember set 76403 The Ministry of Magic (990 pieces - €99.99), which tackled the same subject in a similar way back in 2022, albeit with slightly less ambition, through a playset aimed at younger fans of the universe. The product presented here, however, is clearly aimed at a more discerning clientele who want to display detailed models on their shelves.

LEGO here largely takes up the idea already developed in set 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors' Edition with a multi-level staging from the basement up to street level.

The project is ambitious, and the Ministry ultimately becomes just one section of the overall diorama, with all the compromises that entails regarding both the overall inventory and the level of detail. In the end, the model becomes a mere slice of what it is supposed to represent, somewhat like the contents of the LEGO Star Wars set 75419 Death Star.

It's a shame that the attempt to place the location within a broader context, particularly with the street positioned above the building, gives the impression that everything is a bit oversimplified. Adding the street obviously allows for the integration of one of the means of accessing the Ministry's interior: the telephone booth with its built-in elevator, which was also present in set 76403 The Ministry of Magic , but without being placed in a realistic setting.

But did the end truly justify the means here? That's far from certain, given that LEGO doesn't actually offer the elevator in question and the cabin adds no real functionality to the product. Ironically, the "functional" cabin will be represented by the promotional item included with the purchase of this set starting August 29, 2026: a simple, irrelevant scrap metal trinket, completely out of place from a purely LEGO perspective.

What to make of the fact that we'll see the wall placed behind the structure because it leaves a gaping hole in its center? This is a "slice" of the Ministry, and the perspective effect of the Atrium is therefore reduced here to emptiness instead of trying to fill the available space with a wall full of details in forced perspective to visually enhance the feeling of depth.

This was already the case with the children's toy released in 2022, and it was more forgivable then, but this version could have shown a bit more ambition in this specific area. Indeed, very little remains of the grandeur and especially the depth of the setting in this diorama, which is only 15 cm thick.

Those who wish to place this diorama next to the one in set 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors' Edition will be pleased to learn that the ground level between the two structures is aligned at a height of 34 cm from the base. This will certainly contribute to the visual consistency of the collector's diorama, even if the two locations depicted in these sets are obviously not geographically adjacent.

The assembly process is quite simple: bricks are stacked to build three independent sections, allowing the product to be stored without having to disassemble everything. In fact, that's the only advantage of this modular design: leaving them stacked doesn't prevent access to a specific function or space.

Each of the three sections has its own dedicated instruction booklet, so assembling the set with several people is possible provided that they draw lots to see who will build the most boring section: the Room of Prophecies of the Department of Mysteries.

Speaking of "features," there isn't much here. LEGO has omitted the telephone booth elevator, leaving only access to the Ministry via the toilets and the ability to " tipping over the shelves in the Hall of Prophecies during the fight against the Death Eaters ."

It's sparse and overacted; access via the toilets is simply a drop through a hole hidden under a removable section with no particular mechanism, and the potions in the Department of Mysteries' Hall of Prophecies are spilled by pushing a button that simply tilts two shelves. Two toilets seemed like the bare minimum to recreate the scenes seen on screen with any semblance of accuracy. As it stands, it's far too symbolic.

The 3000+ piece set offered here is, as is often the case, a deluxe edition for discerning fans, with LEGO striving to include numerous, more or less subtle, references to various scenes seen on screen. This is what's commonly called fan service , and LEGO doesn't have much choice because they need to justify the inclusion of some of the minifigures.

The lack of a display stand for the figurines confirms that they will need to be placed within the various spaces of the diorama, thus justifying the choices made by the set's designer. The risk is obvious: many fans will struggle to see this set as a genuine collector's item rather than a luxury dollhouse for spoiled children.

As is often the case with LEGO sets, the back of the build includes a few small, roughly finished spaces where you can "have fun" recreating various scenes. This is especially enjoyable during the building and sticker-pasting phase, as it's during this process that the references to the different scenes become most noticeable. Afterwards, when the set sits on a shelf gathering dust, no one will really be going back to spend time mentally listing all the LEGO references.

As much as it's a "collector's item" as it is, this product isn't free of stickers, and you'll have to apply a whole bunch of different ones. There will certainly be some fans who will embrace this model-making "experience" disguised as a construction toy and defend the presence of all these stickers, but at €430 for this joke, one could have expected better.

Regarding the minifigure selection, the roster is far from complete and suitable for a high-end product aimed at a demanding adult clientele. Secondary characters would have been welcome to round out a collection already overflowing with multiple variations of Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore, etc.

Even set 76403 The Ministry of Magic, released in 2022, did better in this regard, allowing players to obtain Pius Thicknesse, Corban Yaxley, Albert Runcorn, Mafalda Hopkrik, and even Reg and Mary Cattermole. It appealed to collectors always on the lookout for new faces for their display cases.

That being said, you still get 14 figures in this box: Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, Sirius Black, Kingsley Shacklebolt with his Lynx Patronus, Arabella Doreen Figg, Nymphadora Tonks, Arthur Weasley, Mad Eye Moody (Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody), Albus Dumbledore, Lord Voldemort, Lucius Malfoy (Lucius Malfoy), Antonin Dolohov and Dolores Jane Umbridge (Dolores Jane Umbridge).

This roster is undoubtedly comprehensive enough to satisfy an occasional purchase by a fan who's content with the "big sets" and skips the plethora of children's toys available in the range. The printing is technically well done, but LEGO still struggles with the alignment between the torso and legs or the bottom of the characters' tunics: Dumbledore, for example, is very misaligned here, whereas the official images promised something more aligned. Voldemort and Kingsley Shacklebolt fare better in this regard.

We can only mildly complain about the absence of Cornelius Fudge here; he will be available in the promotional set 40901 Ministry Munchies & The Daily Prophet Stands, offered at the launch of this large box. We'll also get a fountain to install in the empty space of the Atrium to complete the set, much like a DLC.

It's also worth noting that LEGO is attempting to recreate the duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort, but the pieces used are ridiculously basic. A more appropriate selection of elements, like those found in set 76415 The Battle of Hogwarts, would have been appreciated.

For those interested, most of the torsos here are new in this form. The Harry Potter torso, however, has been available since 2015; it was initially borrowed from a Jurassic World figure in 2020.

Antonin Dolohov makes his first appearance in minifig format but it is a bit economical: the figure reuses (logically) the new Death Eater torso available since the beginning of this year on which the head of Duncan Idaho (Dune) is installed, Lucius Malfoy does the same with the other version also launched in 2026 to equip the Death Eaters.

This is also the first appearance of Arabella Doreen Figg and the figure is not totally new, the hair and bonnet combination dates back to 2024 and it was a big hit in the IDEAS, CITY and Bricklink Designer Program ranges.

The most dedicated collectors will now have a new Patronus at their disposal, Kingsley Shacklebolt's lynx, to add another figurine to their collection already composed of numerous interpretations of other Patronuses:

A wave of other versions of certain Patronuses had also been offered in the past in sets 75945 Expecto Patronum (2019), 75966 Hogwarts Room of Requirement (2020) and 76403 The Ministry of Magic (2022).

In short, I have very mixed feelings about this proposal, which some will undoubtedly praise. It seems the designer has simply reused the idea from the 2022 set, adding elements to make it more luxurious and therefore more expensive.

In my opinion, it's visually a bit too simplistic to truly do justice to the Ministry of Magic as seen on screen, and the excessive use of stickers in a box sold for €430 only reinforces my conviction that it falls short of what one would expect given the subject matter. By trying too hard to place the locations within their overall context, the game loses some of the polish in the main storyline.

As a small consolation, LEGO Harry Potter fans will also have their "slice" (of the set), as it's not deep enough to leave enough space around the various scenes. And from the side, it quickly becomes apparent that it frankly lacks volume.

The Atrium floor, with its exposed studs, must necessarily serve as a display for the minifigs provided, and that's what I remember about the product: it's a luxury display for a large handful of figurines to exhibit rather than a truly convincing model of the subject matter.
