Today we are quickly interested in the content of the LEGO DC set 76303 Batman Tumbler vs. Two-Face & The Joker, a box of 429 pieces currently on pre-order on the official online store at the public price of €59,99 with effective availability of the product scheduled for January 1, 2025. This is not a figment of the imagination, the LEGO DC range has been surviving for a few years now with a few rare playsets as well as several sets for adults which are responsible for trying to retain the attention of fans of the license.
In January 2025, the Tumbler will return to the catalog in a toy version for children with a new interpretation which should take over on the shelves of the set 76239 Batman Batmobile Tumbler: Scarecrow Showdown, a box of 422 pieces marketed between the last quarter of 2021 and the end of 2022 at a public price of €39,99. The 2021 set then offered two minifigs: Batman and Scarecrow. If you want to refresh your memory and compare the two versions, my review of the previous set is available on the site at this address.
The comparison between the two versions will be inevitable for collectors who already have the previous set on their shelves, it will probably not be relevant for younger fans who will not have known it. In any case, we will now have to deal with this new version which takes up some of the good ideas of the previous one but which also differentiates itself by some aesthetic shortcuts.
The Tumbler is a complex vehicle that is difficult to pay homage to without falling into a kind of visual mush that is difficult to decipher and this version seems to me to do rather well. We can regret that the size of the tires used here does not allow to reinforce the aggressive side of the vehicle and that some sections of bodywork ignore the well-felt details that dressed the 2021 version, and this Tumbler equipped with two Stud Shooters too visible but which can be easily removed confirms its status as a simple toy and almost relegates the other version to the rank of a model on a very reduced scale.
Should we conclude that LEGO didn't make much effort on this product? Perhaps knowing that the vehicle is accompanied by a not very inspired Bat-Signal that consumes a few pieces of the set's already limited inventory. For those who are interested, know that this Tumbler is like the previous one based on the 6x12x1 chassis used on many vehicles in the Speed Champions range from 2020 to 2023. It should also be noted that the cockpit is designed to accommodate the Batman minifig with his soft plastic cape and that the three windows provided are smoked with a blue tint.
Three characters accompany the vehicle and the Bat-Signal: Batman, the Joker and Two-Face. The three minifigures benefit from new torsos, Batman's soft plastic cape is the one already seen in the LEGO DC set 76274 Batman with the Batmobile vs. Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze (€59.99), the mask of the Gotham vigilante is the now usual one which includes white eyes, the Joker's head is the one already seen in the LEGO DC set 76240 Batman Batmobile Tumbler (269,99 €).
So only Harvey Dent / Two-Face remains who is totally new in this form with a nice face pad printing and a new hairstyle. Neutral legs for everyone, let's not exaggerate either. LEGO does not deprive us of stickers, however, with five stickers to dress the Bat-signal and the Tumbler. The Bat-Signal sticker is not even phosphorescent.
This product is sold for €60 and it's expensive, no doubt about it even with three minifigures in the box. No light brick for the Bat-Signal, a vehicle that skips on big tires and many finishing details and a handful of minifigures that reuse elements already available elsewhere, we can't say that LEGO gives us value for our money here.
We all know that this box will soon be available elsewhere than at LEGO for much less than its retail price, but it is clear that the content/price ratio is not to the advantage of this box.
Those who don't have the set version 76239 Batman Batmobile Tumbler: Scarecrow Showdown won't have much choice, the others can in my opinion largely ignore it unless the new minifigs delivered in this box are a strong argument in their eyes.
Note: The product shown here, provided by LEGO, is as usual involved. Deadline fixed at 18 December 2024 next at 23:59 p.m. Simply post a comment below the article to participate.
