76466 lego harry potter philosopher stone collectors edition review 1

Today we quickly take a look at the contents of the LEGO Harry Potter set 76466 Philosopher's Stone – Collectors' Edition, a box of 1571 pieces currently available for pre-order on the official online store as well as on Amazon at a public price of €159,99 and which will be available from January 1, 2026.

This purely display-quality product will take over from the LEGO Harry Potter set at the beginning of next year. 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collector's Edition (3010 pieces - €299,99) marketed in 2021 and since sold out, with here a "light" version of the idea exploited in these two boxes but sold this time almost half price with an inventory also divided by two.

The concept is indeed the same for both products: a stack of Harry Potter-related items topped with Hedwig the owl. However, the comparison between the two sets ends there; this new 2026 release clearly focuses more on what lies beneath the owl than on the bird itself.

Hedwig's interpretation here is indeed much less ambitious than in the other set; it's cruder, less textured, and the owl's head has undergone a simplification that simply doesn't allow this new version to compete with the original set. 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collector's Edition.

Perhaps for the sake of saving parts, Hedwig is depicted here with folded and fixed wings; it is inevitably a little less impressive than the version with outstretched wings that delivered the Hogwarts acceptance letter in the other box.

Beneath the bird, we find Harry Potter's chest topped with two books. Visually, it works, with a very convincing rendering of the layering of the different elements. The whole thing is placed on a chessboard, a reference to the first installment of the film saga. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Just to clarify in case you didn't understand: the trunk and the two books cannot be separated, either from each other or from the chessboard, as they form a single unit with an axis running through its center. Don't spoil the assembly process for yourself; there are some clever ideas for achieving this lovely result, and I recommend preserving the pleasure of discovery.

The chessboard is incomplete on the back, but this is for a good reason: the cut allows the model, measuring approximately 30 cm wide by 21 cm deep and 24 cm high, to be placed flush against a wall. There are a few miniature scenes on the back of the model, but these are purely for the enjoyment of fans.

It is also possible to imagine that this product is only the first in a series of exhibition models dedicated to each of the films, this one directly referencing only the first installment of the saga, as indicated on the small pad-printed plaque placed at the front of the construction.

It therefore contains references to scenes or objects seen on screen such as the Philosopher's Stone, a Chocolate Frog Card, the Hogwarts Express hidden in the pages of one of the two books, the final chess game with a horse on which Ron's minifigure can sit, or the confrontation scene with the mountain troll in the toilet and the path of trials which are hidden in the suitcase.

The three dials placed on the side of the chest add a small dose of interactivity to the product: the first is used to eject the side of the suitcase to reveal the scene of confrontation with the toilet troll, the second sets Hedwig's head in motion and the third moves the Queen on the chessboard.

The two other micro-builds integrated into the chest and the black-covered book are not concealed behind ejectable panels, which is a bit of a shame for the overall finish of the object. The Hogwarts Express and the path of trials therefore remain visible when the build is viewed from the back.

There are a good number of stickers in this box, but everything you don't see on the scanned sheets is printed on. It's a shame for a product aimed at adult fans; the most exposed stickers will inevitably suffer from light and dust over time.

Of the three new minifigures included in this set—Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley—two have printed arms, and their outfits are generally consistent with the scenes referenced in the product. All three characters have short legs, which is typical for first-year Hogwarts students.

This set will obviously easily find its audience among the most dedicated Harry Potter fans who want to display something other than an overwhelming Hogwarts playset in their homes. It's less appealing than the set's proposal. 76391 Hogwarts Icons Collector's Edition But if this is the start of a new collection, it's already too expensive because you'll have to buy half a dozen more products of the same kind later on.

In short, it's a product that exploits a good idea and seems quite successful to me, except for Hedwig, who struggles to convince me with her somewhat compact head and her messy, coarse plumage that contrasts with the more refined finish of the rest of the figure. We'll have to make do with that.
