Today we are quickly interested in the content of the LEGO ICONS set 40761 The Lord of the Rings: Sméagol & Déagol, a small box of 181 pieces currently offered and at best until April 8, 2025 on the official online store for the purchase of the LEGO ICONS set 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire.
This promotional product features the flashback seen in the film The king's return during which a simple fishing trip between hobbits turns into a tragedy: Déagol is dragged to the bottom by a fish caught on his line and finds himself in possession of the "Precious". Sméagol then murders his cousin to seize the Ring.
The spin-off in question here deals meticulously with its subject matter, with several staging possibilities, from Déagol's underwater escapade to his return to the shore with the Ring under the eyes of the man who will become Gollum.
It's almost surprising that LEGO would recreate such a gruesome scene, but the little build will definitely be a welcome addition to the collections of anyone excited to see The Lord of the Rings franchise return to LEGO in 2023.
The whole thing is obviously assembled in a few minutes but we can salute the effort made to symbolize both the surface on which the boat of the two hobbits evolves and the bottom of the lake which offers interesting aesthetic possibilities. For the rest, with a product in this format, it is difficult to expect more than this LEGO offers us even if the tree present here is almost more successful than that of the additional module of the set 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire.
The two minifigs provided are not adorned with new elements, they reuse torsos already seen elsewhere at LEGO: Sméagol wears the Argus Filch outfit available since 2022 in the Harry Potter range and Déagol is content with the torso of Samwise Gamgee seen for the first time in 2023 in the set 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell. The two heads are, however, new with two very appropriate facial expressions per face depending on the scene selected.
This small promotional product will therefore not revolutionize the genre but it at least has the merit of reproducing an important scene in the form of a wink reserved for early buyers of the LEGO ICONS set. 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire. so it would be a shame to miss out, at least to compensate for paying full price for the reference set.
Note: The product shown here, provided by LEGO, is as usual involved. Deadline fixed at 12 April 2025 at 23:59 pm. Just post a comment under the article to participate. Your participation is taken into account regardless of your opinion. Avoid "I'm participating" or "I'm trying my luck", we suspect that this is the case.
