Review : LEGO ICONS 40768 Star Trek: Type-15 Shuttlepod

Star Trek fans should appreciate getting this LEGO minifigure version of the Type-15 shuttle, which was carried multiple times on the Enterprise. This is the Onizuka module, named after astronaut Ellison Onizuka who died in the Challenger space shuttle explosion in 1986, piloted on screen by several characters depending on the mission: Data and Geordi La Forge notably piloted this shuttle.

LEGO chose to include the Ro Laren minifigure with the set, but the manufacturer made a mistake: they advertised the stardate 45076.3 on the sticker representing the shuttle's LCARS system, a reference to the "Ensign Ro" episode from the fifth season of the series. However, the sticker actually features the stardate 44885.5, which refers to an episode in the fourth season in which Geordi La Forge is piloting the shuttle. It's a shame, though this mismatch between the reference and the included minifigure probably won't keep many people up at night.

Otherwise, the shuttle is fairly faithful to the version seen on screen, its assembly is entertaining, and only the disappointing sticker sheet mars the overall impression. Most of these stickers use a transparent background, which in theory avoids the usual color mismatch between their white background and the color of the pieces they're applied to, but the adhesive will still be slightly visible through the surface. You can't have your cake and eat it too with LEGO.

The Ro Laren minifigure can be placed in the module, hence the announcement of a minifigure-scale version, and it suffers from the same manufacturing defect as the other uniformed figures in the set. 10356 Star Trek: USS Enterprise NCC-1701-DThe red area on the torso is indeed not entirely consistent with the color of the arms, which are dyed throughout. We can take comfort in the fact that the entire cast is perfectly matched, flaws and all.

This promotional product is therefore aimed at fans of the franchise who will pay for their copy of the LEGO ICONS set. 10356 Star Trek: USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D at full price from November 28, 2025, and in my opinion, it fulfills its mission brilliantly. However, it's not a DLC that will be missed by those who choose to wait for a better price on the big box; it's simply a nice nod to an iconic shuttle from the Startek saga, intended for fans of the franchise.
