Today we take a very quick tour of the content of the LEGO Marvel set 76296 New Captain America Construction Figure, a box of 359 pieces available on the official online store at the public price of €34,99 since December 1, 2024 and also offered since the same date at a more reasonable price by Amazon.
With references 76292 Captain America vs. Red Hulk Battle et 40668 Captain America & Red Hulk, this set is one of three products derived from the film Captain America: Brave New World which is now slated for a theatrical release in February 2025 after being pushed back twice. It features Sam Wilson in the outfit we'll see on screen, but we have to make do with the character wearing his helmet and LEGO doesn't provide Anthony Mackie's "real" face.
The structure of the figurine is similar to those of the different characters in the same format that already flood the LEGO Marvel range and this one is part of the references that are delivered with their accessories as are already Green Goblin and Spider-Man in the sets 76284 Green Goblin Construction Figure (37.99 €) and 76298 Iron Spider-Man Construction Figure (34.99 €).
Here, Captain America is equipped with his wings deployed in the form of flexible plastic elements held by a structure composed of Technic parts. It is rather elegant, from the front we only notice the attachment points of the two wings. Sam Wilson is also accompanied by his Redwing drone, the machine is fixed on the back of the figurine but can be easily detached.
LEGO could have offered us wings made from parts, but the appearance of these appendages would probably have been less graphically accomplished. I can't decide between the two possibilities, even if I always prefer to have a maximum of real LEGO parts rather than shortcuts made of fabric or soft plastic.
The two wings are fixed but they can be oriented by unhooking the two parts of the structure to, for example, put the figurine in a flying position. This is a possibility that will not bring much to those who will simply display the character on their shelves but which should please the youngest
The product also suffers from the usual problems of these figurines: the joints and other visible pins are rarely in the right color and therefore stand out. The red pin that remains visible in the center of the shield is a bit of a stain, the black ones visible on the front of the wings are far from discreet.
For once, the head of the figurine seems acceptable to me with the piece that sometimes gives a slightly strange appearance to some of the models offered by LEGO. Everything is pad printed, we do not stick stickers on this figurine and it is all the better to allow it to withstand intensive handling.
In short, this figurine is intended for the youngest but will undoubtedly also find its audience among fans ofAction Figures to collect is not the worst of the range, it has wingspan with its nicely printed wings and the whole thing seems very correct to me even if the public price seems a little excessive. On sale elsewhere than at LEGO, why not.
