LEGO DC Batman The Batmobile from Batman v Superman - Toy Car - Superhero Collector Model with Minifigure - Birthday Gift Idea
Today we are very quickly interested in the content of the LEGO Star Wars set 75374 The Onyx Cinder, a box of 1325 pieces available on the official store since August 1, 2024 at the public price of €139,99 and also in stock elsewhere for a little less.
This set is a derivative product of the series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew whose launch is announced for December 3, 2024 on the Disney + platform and, while waiting to learn more, the trailer already available suggests a mix between Stranger Things and the Goonies with a Star Wars twist.
The ship that LEGO offers us to assemble here makes a few fleeting appearances in the trailer of the series, it is difficult at this stage to have a precise opinion on the relevance of the transition between the small screen and the LEGO Store shelf. On the other hand, we are certain here to be dealing with a playset intended for a very young audience with somewhat crude finishes but playability guaranteed by a few well-integrated features. The series is intended for them, this box too.
The assembly of the product will not keep you busy during long autumn evenings, everything is built very quickly with the installation of numerous stickers which bring their share of detail to the fuselage of the ship.
Internal structure based on Technic beam and subassemblies which then come to be stuck on this solid skeleton, we are on familiar ground with a logic already present in many playsets of the LEGO Star Wars range intended for the youngest fans. The Onyx Cinder even pays the luce of having four real landing gears, which are however not retractable.
The cargo ship, which is barely 36 cm long, 27 cm wide and 11 cm high, seems much more compact in real life than on the product packaging, but it still offers a bit of fun. Several internal spaces are easily accessible if you have small fingers, and it is possible to engage the rotation of the reactors thanks to an integrated mechanism that ensures their tilting.
This mechanism is simple, without frills or gears, and you just have to push the black button placed at the top of the fuselage to put the six engines in position. Two side openings and two ramps placed at the front and rear of the ship are available, we can not blame LEGO for preventing us from enjoying the interior of the ship.
The ship's finish will seem to be of a good standard if we consider it as a simple toy intended for children, it will be less obvious for all those who hope to make it an exhibition model placed on their shelves. We will remember the three white Adidas-style stripes on the fuselage and the three sets of Stud Shooters distributed over the surface of the vessel.
As it is, I find the whole thing rather correct with an alternation between visible tenons and smooth surfaces, correctly managed angles between the different panels which dress the surfaces concerned and this toy looks great even if there are some sub-assemblies which only hold on a clip and which risk coming off during the most hazardous handling. The stickers provided, too numerous as usual, bring a little finesse to the surface of the fuselage.
On the minifig side, it's pretty well served with five characters and some pretty pad prints. We're in the Star Wars spirit and there's enough to fill the collectors' Ribba frames a little more with this new club of five. The youngest will perhaps identify with these young heroes if the series finds its audience and this product at least has the merit of offering the full main cast. We can therefore imagine that this will probably be the only derivative product of the series.
This box is sold at a retail price of €139,99, which is expensive for a product based on a series that no one has seen yet. Amazon is currently offering a slightly more attractive price, but I think this box will soon be available for even less, unless the series is a hit and children beg their parents to give them this set for Christmas.
I doubt that's the case, and if you're really interested in this product because it's a refreshing change to the LEGO Star Wars line, your patience should be rewarded. Cargo ships aren't a given at LEGO, so this one probably deserves some attention even if the series ends up in oblivion one day.
