Today we are quickly interested in the content of the LEGO Star Wars set 75403 Grogu with Hover Pram, a box of 1048 pieces currently available for pre-order on the official online store as well as on Amazon and which will be available from January 1, 2025 at the public price of €99,99.
If the figurine from the LEGO Star Wars set 75318 The Child had left many fans wanting more with its slightly strange look, it seems that the one offered here is generally considered to be much more convincing by those who followed the official announcement of the set. I personally think that this is the case, even if the two are not really comparable in terms of scale: the one marketed in October 2020 and since withdrawn from the Shop measured 33 cm high, the one delivered in this box peaks at only 14 cm. The 2025 version only uses a portion of the inventory of 1048 pieces while the 2020 version alone absorbed more than 1000 pieces.
The Grogu figurine delivered in this box is logically very quickly assembled, it takes up the usual concept with an internal structure on which we come to stick subassemblies which give texture to the character's clothes. Small interesting refinement, we have two independent mechanisms based on gears which allow to orientate Grogu's arms from the back of the construction. At this scale, we obtain more smooth surfaces and fewer visible studs on the surface, I prefer this approach to that of 2020 with a grogu which was then covered with studs on all his clothing with the exception of a collar.
The two dials remain visible but it is not a big deal, we no longer see them when the character is installed in his pram. The neck is mobile thanks to a Ball joint which is very discreet, the ears can be raised or lowered with sufficient amplitude to vary the expressions. Grogu's face seems cuter to me here than creepy with his chubby and laughing side even if we can always find faults in him like a slightly strange nose or very marked bags under his eyes from staring at him.
The bet of offering us a LEGO version of Grogu's pram was risky, the object is all curves and the designer does rather well in my opinion by multiplying the quite original techniques and not skimping on the number of elements to serve the structure. It is very pleasant to assemble even if we sometimes wonder where the designer is taking us and the object seems to me to be sufficiently accomplished to make this product a real exhibition model.
LEGO is not stingy with accessories and provides us with Grogu's favorite pommel, two biscuits and a Sorgan frog. All these elements can be fixed on the character's hands, thus creating as many possibilities of display. The pram benefits from a support which allows to vaguely give the impression that it floats in the air, it is stable and convincing even if the set of black pieces will remain clearly visible. I would have tried something based on transparent pieces, in order to reinforce the visual illusion.
The whole thing is accompanied by the essential support which highlights the traditional plaque distilling a few facts whose main mission is to give a collector's side to the product and we even get the usual figurine of Grogu in a micro-pram. These plates have long since ceased to be reserved for sets that inherit the label Ultimate Collector Series, some will not see a problem with it, others will regret that LEGO is now extending this privilege to products that perhaps do not deserve as much honor. LEGO has still not solved the problem of the color difference between the soft plastic head of the figurine and the hands molded with the body, we will make do.
There are a few stickers to stick on the pram and on the frog to improve the finish of the whole thing a little, I have scanned the board in question for you (see above).
I think there is no point in debating for hours about this product, it does better in every way than the set version 75318 The Child and the addition of the pram is a real plus. This version of the character on a more modest scale seems frankly more successful to me without sacrificing important details like the character's facial expression, his characteristic legs and the texture of his clothes. The compromise is satisfactory, Grogu is in my opinion finally entitled to an acceptable LEGO version that makes him more likeable than the one in the set 75318 The Child.
