21064 lego architecture paris city of love review 1

Today we'll take a quick look at the contents of the LEGO Architecture set. 21064 Paris – City of Love, a box of 958 pieces currently available for pre-order on the official online store at a public price of €79,99 and which will be available on January 1, 2026.

I'm not sure this product deserved to be associated with the LEGO Architecture range; it looks more like a postcard in relief for a tourist in a hurry to get home after discovering that Paris is not the city of love, but who still wants to save appearances with everyone to whom he will tell his journey and his various misadventures.

This set is indeed a hybrid cross between the skylines already seen in the range and the brick postcards marketed in recent years, not enough to make a truly accomplished and detailed model.

It's worth noting that LEGO doesn't even bother to specify that the model depicts Paris; everyone knows by now that the Louvre is in Paris. I don't understand the point of mentioning it, either. City of love on Tile pad-printed on the front, the city of Paris has not been summarized by this somewhat pompous statement for a long time, except in Netflix series.

In terms of assembly, there are a few sequences inspired by traditional LEGO Architecture sets, with a plethora of 1x1 pieces used to represent the architectural details of the monuments depicted. Notre-Dame is well done, as is the Arc de Triomphe; the Louvre is vaguely suggested with its rather lazy pyramid, and the Eiffel Tower doesn't really take advantage of the scale, resulting in a design that, in my opinion, is both a bit too crude and the color scheme is out of place.

There's no vegetation in this box; everyone knows there isn't any left in Paris, but I wonder what the black pieces visible on either side of the central walkway represent. Dying trees? Streetlights?

The perspective effect is quite well done, with a good use of color. I'm less convinced by the starry sky in the background, with gaps between the rooms that allow the building's interior to show through. The choice of color could also be debated. Tan (beige) for the monuments in the foreground, I understand the artistic choice of the project with a gradient that goes towards dark but this color does not match any of the proposed constructions.

LEGO used to offer us the Eiffel Tower in grey in the LEGO Architecture sets. 21044 Paris Skyline, 854011 Eiffel Tower Magnet or, 10307 Eiffel TowerIt's not the right color either, but it worked a little better than the light beige shown here.

The whole thing is mounted on a stand meant to sit on the dresser or hang on the wall; it's rather crude, with a spice rack-like effect reminiscent of a home improvement store, and the variations in shade between the white pieces—a technical feat at this level of incompetence—are quite noticeable. I think the edges of the stand are excessive; leaving the sides of the display visible would have been more original, in my opinion.

This set is clearly a product aimed at tourists, and there's not much here that lives up to the generally high standards of the LEGO Architecture range. LEGO probably frowns upon the proliferation of plastic Eiffel Tower vendors on the monument's forecourt and is therefore offering its response in an attempt to nibble away at the market share of these quaint street vendors. I can't see any other explanation.

There is therefore no valid reason to spend €80 on this dystopian vision of Paris which would be more at home in the LEGO ART range than in the LEGO Architecture universe, it will quickly end up in clearance for less than €50 almost everywhere except in Parisian souvenir shops.
