We've seen pretty much everything that's coming in early 2013, except perhaps the Lone Ranger range , but since it's a licensed line based on the upcoming Disney film, we can expect anything. Nevertheless, the return of a bit of the Western theme, even in Flesh form , to the LEGO range is a welcome development.
So, apart from Star Wars (because Star Wars), the DC and Marvel Super Heroes range (for all those superb minifigs) and Lord of the Rings / The Hobbit (just to have the characters as minifigs), I don't think I'll be straying towards other ranges in 2013.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ? Not for me. Except maybe for the minifigures of the four friends, just to commemorate the animated series ( this version ) which provided me with many peaceful hours a few years ago while my son watched his DVDs on repeat. He's 9 now and has moved on. I showed him some pictures of the new animated series that should be coming soon to France on Nickelodeon, and he wasn't impressed. He confirmed that it's not worth investing in the playsets that will be released in 2013 based on this theme.
Legends of Chima ? Count me out. Cats riding flying tracked motorcycles and green boats, or guys in bird masks piloting mini-vehicles you can launch like spinning tops... I'm not really into it, and neither is my son. He used to enjoy the Ninjago line, before it went off the rails with improbable motorcycles and futuristic planes, but now, he's adamant, it's utter nonsense. Even the Power Rangers are more coherent in his opinion, which says a lot. LEGO had better have a captivating animated series planned to wrap this line of sets in a context that will appeal to younger children.
As for the City theme , you won't hold it against me, but police and fire trucks, or cement mixers, don't exactly thrill me. I'll pass on that range too. On a rainy, gloomy day, I might just give in and buy the Octan tanker truck from set 60016, which does manage to tug at my heartstrings.
Friends ? Not relevant, it's for girls... At least, that's what LEGO says. My only opinion on this line: It's too colorful, too flashy, too girly, too Barbie. Of course, I have two boys at home, and I suspect that if I had a daughter, she would probably have a different opinion than mine.
Technic ? Not really my thing. But I really like the Formula 1 car from set 42000 Grand Prix Racer and its alternate model. It's purely a visual crush.
And you, you will spend your money in what ranges next year? What do you think of Legends of Chima, in all honesty?
