2016 review: My tops and my flops

Let's take a look back for a little review of the year 2016 with a selection of sets that will have convinced me that I am a fan of LEGO who still finds among the hundreds of references marketed each year to marvel at and a set that will have confirmed to me that even one of the leaders of the toy can sometimes go astray and disappoint.

The and 76052 Classic TV Series Batcave is definitely the one I got more excited about than usual this year.

Even if it means being in bad faith, I gladly forgive LEGO for the somewhat rickety aspect of the whole and the excessive public price. I just remember a beautiful tribute to a cult television series which I have fond memories of for its quirky side, its onomatopoeias, its somewhat crappy special effects and its improbable action scenes.

I have waited a long time for this version of the Batmobile. That of the exclusive set sold during Comic Con 2014 was a good start but the interpretation very "Chibi"the vehicle was not enough to meet my expectations.

If we add the polybag 30603 Batman Classic TV Series - Mr Freeze, the cast of the series is pulled together with overall very successful versions of the various characters.

A Batmobile, a Batcopter, Adam West and Burt Ward in "civilian" and in costume: I am overwhelmed.

In the Creator range, which I gladly consider the only range System which respects to the letter the principle of creativity dear to LEGO because it allows with the same inventory to assemble three models all very convincing, the set 31052 Vacation Getaways came to join my collection.

The not-so-creative LEGO fan that I am has rediscovered the pleasure of opening a box that promises long hours of assembly, disassembly and reuse of inventory to create something else.

This concept which finally seems so obvious has for many years been largely obscured by all these boxes whose inventory does not generally allow to assemble anything more convincing than what is initially planned.

Since this set, I take a closer look at what the Creator range offers and I already know that the set 31062 RoboExplorer planned for 2017 will join my collection ...

Having used, constrained and forced, that the sets of the LEGO Super Heroes range are generally composed of interesting minifigs accompanied in the form of a few pieces allowing to build something that serves as a pretext for LEGO not to be too move away from its basic concept, the set 76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle was a great surprise.

Yes, it is ultimately a half-bridge, and you need the contents of two boxes to make something more complete, but it is all the same a bridge that is both a luxury display. to stage a great battle of minifigs and a great start to an urban diorama for anyone like me who usually doesn't know where to start.

On the flop side, and without wanting to add a layer on a set that has already suffered many criticisms and that it is better to forget, the box 75098 Assault on Hoth wins in my eyes.

Whether this is actually just a simple compilation of everything LEGO has been able to market so far on the subject, that's not so bad. Let this box of 2144 pieces only contain two Snowtroopers when LEGO uses the word "Assault"is a little more.

There must be a curse around Hoth at LEGO: the manufacturer has never been able to offer a definitive version of this legendary battle, contenting itself each year with offering a set not really inspired or representative of the potential of this battle. The 75098 Assault on Hoth set is probably the best we will have on the subject and I am left hungry.

To be placed in my half-flops category, the set 71040 DisneyCastle. It's not a total failure, far from it, but there are many details that spoil my initial amazement about this set. We will talk about it soon in an article dedicated to this box.

This small non-exhaustive selection obviously only reflects a very personal opinion and jI know there will probably be as many notices as there are boxes. I look forward to hearing which were your favorite 2016 sets and which ones you consider disappointing ...
