The transformation of Bricklink, a marketplace entirely dedicated to LEGO products, has continued (very) gradually since the takeover of the platform by Nexon, a large group specializing in online games.
A new feature which will be in service from May 2014 and which will accompany the launch of the new interface, has just been unveiled: The Bricklink MOC Shop.
To put it simply, it is a concept very similar to that developed by the participatory platform LEGO Cuusoo: A MOCeur proposes a creation, the others comment, rate, etc ... and if the MOC obtains sufficient recognition of the from members of the Bricklink community, it becomes available for purchase as a set of the range "Bricklink Originals". The designer of the set then receives a commission of 5% of the sale price of the MOC and the Bricklink sellers are called upon to" source "the necessary parts.
A few well-known designers have already been invited to propose creations, in order to start the concept with quality content and negotiations are currently underway to be able to market MOCs using licenses: Rovio has already given its agreement, and the MOCs on the Angry Birds theme are therefore already authorized.
There are still a lot of gray areas around this new feature, especially regarding the "ownership" of the design and the verification of the rights claimed by those who will submit their designs, but the general idea is there and Bricklink will go straight to it. compete with (or complement) Cuusoo.
The announcement of this Bricklink MOC Shop comes with the promise of (finally) automatic integration of shipping costs, which will limit the risk of unpleasant surprises for customers and perhaps irritate some sellers, but which in the end should make everyone's life easier .
Lastly, Bricklink will be organizing "Building Challenges"[Construction competition] monthly which will allow the winners to be automatically selected for the platform Bricklink MOC Shop.
