This is news that could go unnoticed and some are already working to trivialize it to minimize the impact of the inevitable changes that will occur quickly: Bricklink, the marketplace dedicated to the LEGO universe whose founder Daniel Jezek died 3 years ago has just passed into the hands of the South Korean juggernaut in the online gaming sector, Nexon. This is one of the leaders, with Zynga in particular, in the field of freemium (Free game with in-app micro-purchases) that is growing fast.
The good news is that the leader of this group is already announcing that he intends to modernize this space used by many sellers, individuals or professionals, to make it more attractive, more stable and therefore more profitable for all. those who rely on this platform for their business.
Nexon CEO Jung-Ju “Jay” Kim, South Korean multi-millionaire, recalls in his message that he is above all a big fan of LEGO, that he intends to act in the continuity of what has already been put in place and that he invites users to actively participate in this overhaul by giving them the opportunity to share their feelings and ideas ...
Everything is therefore a priori for the best: Bricklink will be reborn, recurring problems will be resolved, the platform will become more attractive and more efficient. This bodes well for buyers.
As for the sellers, we will have to wait to see how Nexon will adapt the rules of the game. Those who know Nexon already suspect that this acquisition is not a humanitarian operation in favor of the community of LEGO fans. Nexon will have to invest to allow Bricklink to move to the next level, with the ultimate objective of increasing the profitability of the platform. There will be consequences for sellers, and even if it is still too early to worry about this unexpected announcement, I think that we will have to put up with some adjustments concerning in particular the commission rates or the legal constraints of 'access to the platform as a seller and other festivities inherent in the entry of Bricklink into the fold of a large group listed on the stock exchange and highly exposed to the media.
