Cloud City Playset by StoutFiles (LDD)

Cloud City is the ultimate LEGO fantasy: every collector dreams of owning set 10123 ( starting at €500 on Bricklink , used but complete). Of course, it's mainly the unique Boba Fett minifigure (starting at €140 on Bricklink ) with its printed leg design that fuels this enthusiasm; the rest of the set is quite standard. I paid full price for mine, and even though I resigned myself to the set's rarity, I still think I paid far too much for that famous minifigure...

But most of us are primarily interested in a possible new interpretation of this iconic location that floats around the planet Bespin, as seen in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back . The duel between Luke and Vader, or the freezing of Han Solo, are just some of the key events in the saga that take place within this cloud city.

Rumors regularly circulate that LEGO is about to announce a re-release of set 10123, originally released in 2003 with its 705 pieces and 7 minifigures. However, to date, no concrete information has been revealed, and there's nothing to suggest that LEGO plans to release a set based on this theme.

StoutFiles took the problem head-on and ventured to imagine what a playset of the caliber of set 10188 Death Star released in 2008 with more than 3800 pieces and 22 minifigs could look like, and which remains to this day undoubtedly the best playset ever released in the Star Wars range.

The result is this work, created using LDD (Low Dynamic Design), with a meticulous reproduction of key locations in Cloud City, respecting the play and design principles used by LEGO for set 10188. It's not perfect, but the effort deserves recognition. The exercise is interesting, and StoutFiles regularly posts screenshots of his LDD work on Eurobricks. Feel free to check out the dedicated thread from time to time ; there are some great ideas.
