midiscalesets
Little used by LEGO within the Star Wars range, the Midi-scale format is more widespread and appreciated by MOCeurs.
LEGO has tried a few forays into this format with 2 sets: 7778 Mid-scale Millennium Falcon and in 2009 8099 Midi-Scale Imperial Star Destroyer in 2010.

Appreciated by AFOLs and collectors, these sets have undoubtedly had more difficulty in attracting the favors of children especially because of the absence of minifigs, despite the certain playability of the ships.

With this format, however, we can consider that the compromise between size and level of detail is ideal. The 2009 Millennium Falcon with its 356 parts is a real success: It is compact, recognizable at first glance and embellished with many details without compromising the overall shape of the vessel. The 2010 ISD with its 423 parts is also well designed and relatively detailed. These two ships are an interesting alternative for those who are sorely lacking in space: they can be displayed in a small space and their "mock-up" aspect makes them real collector's items just like the UCS.

No official set of this type in 2011, but I do not despair to see LEGO offering more soon, despite rumors of the manufacturer stopping this format due to poor sales. For the record, the two Star Wars sets mentioned above were quickly sold out a few months after their release.

In the meantime, AFOLs remain creative in this format as evidenced by the scenes shown on the FBTB booth during Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND Park in California.
