Before announcing the winning trio of the competition, I would like to thank the 97 participants who all showed creativity and originality.
To be honest, I didn't think that such a contest that requires you to take your bricks out of the closet and rack your brains to come up with something coherent and attractive could bring together so many LEGO fans. Each participant will thus have contributed to demonstrate that a well-put together contest can attract and motivate many fans, even if it requires a little more than registration for a possible draw.
So I logically decided to expand the endowment and reward three participants instead of one.
That being said, to decide between the proposed creations, I called on a character that is no longer presented to LEGO fans: Marcos Bessa, official LEGO designer of many sets including the essential sets. 10937 Arkham Asylum Breakout, 10236 Ewok Village, 71006 The Simpsons House et 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier.
If you want to know more about the work of Marcos Bessa and discover all the sets he is the creator, go to his website. As a bonus you will find many "Fun Facts"which will enlighten you on the details and other winks deliberately hidden in the boxes of which he is the designer.
Marcos Bessa is therefore the one and only judge of this competition: Who other than him to determine which creation deserves to win? So he went through all of the entries and he is happy to admit that he was impressed by the number of fans who tried to take up the challenge. You will find his comments on each of the winning entries following the introduction below:
Hello everyone! Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and show of creativity clearly visible in all your entries! I'm impressed with how many of you choose to give a shot at this challenge. And I must say: you all did great! I loved to see some nice touches here and there, like little thrones incorporated for Red Skull, or the use of the octopus element ... Certainly inspiring! 🙂 Keep Always the Great Work and Never Stop Building! Mark |
The three creations that finished on the podium:
Who is the big winner of the contest who leaves with the set 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier ?
1st Place: Biniou This is THE one. Obviously my favorite! It's simple, minimalistic, with the perfect size and iconic logo perfectly represented. I love the base too, with the red steps in front of RedSkull - very dramatic! Congratulations! |
Who takes second place and leaves with the set 76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue ?
2nd Place: Faceless What caught my attention on this one was the interesting placement of the "logo" into the model. Really interesting detailing and shape work done with fairly simple and basic elements. Well done! |
Who takes third place and leaves with the set 76018 Hulk Lab Smash ?
3rd Place: Sissius The proof that many times less is more. This small model fits perfectly in the concept: it has the right scale, the right amount of elements, clearly depicts the reference and it even uses the same "base". Really liked it! |
Marcos Bessa's selection is eclectic. Three winners, three different approaches: Minimalism and faithful reproduction of the HYDRA logo, use of basic pieces for a very successful result and creation integrating a small number of pieces but which sticks perfectly to the original concept.
The winners will be contacted individually by email to send their prize.
Congratulations again to all, and a big thank you to Marcos Bessa for agreeing to take part in the game. See you soon for a new competition!
