LEGO Ninjago Legacy 71740 Jay's Electro-Mech

We end the cycle of reviews of the LEGO Ninjago novelties for March 2021 with a quick look at the contents of the Legacy set 71740 Jay's Electro-Mech, a small box of 106 pieces sold at the public price of 19.99 €.

The set is stamped "4+" and the inventory is therefore up to this classification which indicates that the thing is designed to simplify the life of the youngest fans tired of the big DUPLO bricks. This box is also marked with the mention Legacy, it pays a priori homage to a set marketed several years ago in the Ninjago range. And it is well in the set 70754 Electromech 2015 that this new set vaguely refers to, for the tribute it will be necessary to review.

We are not going to lie to each other, this mech does not have many arguments to make with its large castings and its more than summary finish. Jay is not locked in his cockpit, or even restrained by any hoop, and that's a shame. I understand that this type of set is really intended for very young children, but there is undoubtedly a balance to be found between the simplicity of assembly and the level of finish. The big gray shuriken is identical to the one seen in the set 71738 Zane's Titan Mech Battle.

LEGO Ninjago Legacy 71740 Jay's Electro-Mech

According to your tastes, it will be possible as I did here to invert the two molded legs to obtain a robot with a pose a little less ridiculous than in the default configuration. The two elements used make me think of the legs of the droid ED-209 seen in Robocop and I hope that we will see these parts in other colors in the future, there must be something a little original to do with.

In front of the mech, there is a mobile Anacondrai ballista, also rather sketchy, which probably vaguely mimics the machine seen in 2015 in the set 70745 Anacondrai Crusher. There is at least something to aim the mech with the barrel mounted on a rotating axis, that's always taken for the gameplay. Should we put this type of projectile in the hands of a four-year-old child with the risk of ending up with a stunned cat? I'm just asking the question.

LEGO also provides some additional elements to create an atmosphere around the two main buildings. Nothing crazy, it's still so basic but everything is pad printed. We get some pretty Tiles, a spider in Dark Flesh seen in ten sets since 2018 and a scorpion in dark Blue seen in only four boxes since its first appearance in 2017 in The LEGO Ninjago Movie set 70617 Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon.

LEGO Ninjago Legacy 71740 Jay's Electro-Mech

Alongside the Mech and the Anacondrai cannon on wheels, we get two minifigs here: the young blue ninja Jay and the villainous Eyezor. Jay's minifig combines more or less common elements in the Ninjago range: the head is the one used for the character since 2017, the torso and legs are also present in the sets 71735 Tournament of Elements et 71737 X-1 Ninja Charger marketed this year. The mask has been in the LEGO catalog since 2019 in this form.

Eyezor is also delivered since this year in sets 71735 Tournament of Elements et 71736 Boulder Blaster, I just remember that the yellow area on the chest is not really in line with the arms and the head, contrary to what the official visuals on the Shop claim.

In short, there is not much more to say about this set which I find much too expensive for what it really has to offer, but parents who have just left the DUPLO universe are already anyway. used to paying a high price for their offspring's toys and there will always be someone to spend $ 20 on a product like this.

lego magazine batman dccomics march 2021

The March 2021 issue of the official LEGO Batman magazine is available at newsstands and allows you to get a Batman minifig with its buildable jetpack. The minifigure is the one seen in many sets in the LEGO DC Comics range since 2019, so there is little more than the bag that is unheard of here. For € 6.50, it's meager. Too bad the publisher of this magazine is not a little more daring on the choice of minifigs provided, there is however plenty to do in the DC Comics universe.

If you absolutely want to replicate the supplied jetpack and bat grapple, I've scanned the instructions below for you:

To be continued in June 2021, Robin who will be included with the next issue of this magazine and the minifigure announced is the one already seen in 2020 in the set 76159 Joker's Trike Chase. Not sure that the bat-surfboard provided is enough to justify the purchase of the next issue. It's up to you.

LEGO 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery

LEGO today unveils the set 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery, a large box of 2354 pieces designed in partnership with NASA which makes it possible to assemble the Discovery orbiter and the Hubble space telescope put into orbit during the STS-31 mission launched on April 24, 1990. Discovery has been retired since 2011, the orbiter is now on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington.

LEGO had the choice between the five variants of the shuttle used for the 135 missions of the Space Shuttle Program from 1981 to 2011: Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavor, and some rumors that circulated on social networks at the beginning of the year evoked Columbia in this box. LEGO obviously does not market an orbiter that disintegrated on its return to the atmosphere and focuses on an event that also marked the history of the conquest of space, but in a less tragic way.

LEGO 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery

This exhibition product which ignores the rest of the elements of the shuttle, the tank and the two lateral thrusters, offers some refinements that should delight fans of the space conquest with the possibility of inserting Hubble in the hold of the l orbiter, to stage the extraction of the thing via the remote manipulator arm and to store the two elements side by side on a shelf, all embellished with relatively elegant supports and two presentation plates highlighting some facts.

The landing gears are retractable, the extractable cockpit well integrates the crew seats with a realistic layout, the balance between visible tenons and smooth surfaces is fairly homogeneous and the finish of the tanks is very correct. There are three barrels at the rear at the level of the reactors, I am not a big fan of this solution, but we will do with it. Dimensions of the object: 55 cm long, 34 cm wide and 21 cm high.

To install Hubble in the hold, it will first be necessary to remove the two solar panels in the deployed version and replace them with the extensions supplied which embody the "rolled" panels visible on one of the official visuals.

Big handful of stickers on the program with enough to dress the outside of the orbiter and above all a whole layer of shiny stickers which reproduce the cooling panels installed on the interior surface of the two cargo bay doors. The Hubble telescope is covered with elements in metallic Silver and the two solar panels are flexible pad-printed parts on one side which must be taken great care to prevent them from deforming.

This set will be available on the official online store from April 1, 2021 at the public price of € 179.99. Members of the VIP program will also be able to afford a reproduction of the Ulysses space probe launched by the same orbiter in October 1990. This bonus will not be offered, it will be necessary to sacrifice 1800 VIP points to obtain the code to enter in the basket during the checkout. 'an order, i.e. the equivalent of around € 12 reduction on a future purchase.
