Here is a set from The LEGO Batman Movie range which probably falls into the category of " maybe to buy if my budget allows " for many fans: The reference 70904 Clayface Splat Attack , with its 448 pieces, its dominant Medium Nougat (266 pieces), its two minifigs, one of which will be available in a slew of other boxes and its public price set at €34.99, is not what one can call an attractive product a priori.
No vehicle in this box, so you have to be content with a figurine to assemble about fifteen centimeters high and two minifigs.
Assembling Clayface is straightforward. The skeleton, which includes the articulation points, is assembled in just a few minutes. Care must then be taken during the stacking phase of the 2x2 Round Plates , which overlap and are stacked one on top of the other. The finished model holds together quite well; the joints allow for a wide range of poses, and the character can be manipulated without anything coming apart.
For even more action, and once you have lost the 1x1 Round Plates ejected by the two onboard Stud-Shooters , it is possible to replace one of the forearms with a hammer, again without demolishing everything.
Too bad that LEGO didn't make the effort to integrate a pair of hands like the ones that appear in the movie trailer. After all, Clayface can change shape at will, and this set should have been a perfect example of the modularity so easily converted into LEGO bricks. It's mean.
Very interesting detail that few reviews have mentioned, it suffices to reverse the two pad printed bricks representing the eyes of the character to change his expression. It's brilliant and it doesn't cost more. The Clayface head is adjustable but the amplitude is very limited. No stickers in this box.
On the minifig side, we forget Batman and focus on the other minifig of the set: Mayor McCaskill. This tanned female character will be embodied, vocally and in the original version of the film, by singer Mariah Carey. For now, this minifigure is exclusive to this box.
The blonde hair is beautiful and the shade difference between the face and the neckline is minimal. Minimum service for the lady's tailor: relatively generic design and no pad printing on the legs. Two facial expressions are provided, to help tailor the character's mood to the situation. I'm not sure this female character with no superpowers or background existing in the DC Comics universe will convince fans to spend $ 34.99 on this set unless her screen presence is important. To be confirmed next February.
