"...Batman rushes into the Batbooster to rescue the hostages taken by the Joker at the Commissioner Gordon's retirement party.". It's not me saying it, but it's the official description of this set 70908 The Scuttler which contains 775 pieces and six minifigs and for which you will have to pay 89.99 € on the LEGO Shop, in the LEGO Stores or in your favorite toy store from January 1, 2017.
This machine, in any case a variant which incorporates certain elements of the vehicle delivered in this set, makes a brief appearance in one of the film's trailers during a scene where it is assembled on the fly from the parts of another flying machine which obviously crashed.
It is not, in my opinion, the best set of this first wave of boxes based on the film. But the tastes and the colors cannot be discussed, everyone will appreciate or not the general aesthetics of the machine.
The few features offered boil down to making the whole take all kinds of poses via the movable legs. And to eject a net by pushing on a lever to try to capture the two villains of the box, the Joker and Poison Ivy.
Two cockpits are at your disposal, the most spacious (fixed) being the one which is a priori used in flight, the other with its bat ears (mobile) being a cockpit which seems to me vaguely dedicated to land travel.
Very rustic in appearance, the manual net ejection mechanism does its job quite well. The material used for the net immediately returns to its original shape after ejection and you quickly get caught up in the game.
Batman has a minimalist jetpack here that fits completely into the Beast's main cockpit, once you've found the right position so that the two thrusters don't get in the way (too much) of the canopy closing.
For even more playability, LEGO still wanted to integrate no less than six Studshooters, just to allow you to lose the few ammunition provided even more quickly.
Small challenge for the youngest on the assembly side, several parts have to be assembled twice but with a mirror effect to dress the legs of the machine.
You have to be thorough and follow the instructions well. I specify that the assembly of these sets is facilitated by the presence of numbered bags. Each sachet assembles a portion of the provided contraption / vehicle / building and usually one or two figures, which is a great method to ensure that the youngest stay motivated by the process.
The minifigs provided are six in number: Batman (again him ...), the Joker in a version that is not in my opinion the best that LEGO has offered us and delivered here with a superb pad-printed costume paired with a tail coat to complete the set, a truly gorgeous Poison Ivy and almost as glamorous as Jessica Rabbit, Commissioner Gordon back from two weeks vacation in the West Indies, Barbara Gordon as well back from vacation and in fashion Rainbow Six and Dick Grayson, who throughout the comics has donned the costumes of Robin, Nightwing and even Batman, here dressed with what he found in the back of his closet, including a bow tie provided in duplicate in case you misplace a copy .
Alternative faces for everyone, that's always taken.
Lots of stickers in this set, 25 in all. Most are used to dress the machine by adding some technical details. Too bad the "BANG!" The Joker's pistol is also based on stickers: The slight difference in color between the red of the part and that of the sticker, the visible outlines and the risk of incorrectly positioning the sticker are all details that will spoil the fun a little.
By the way, if LEGO reads us: providing two sheets of stickers as standard would ensure the possibility of replacing them when the need arises and prevent fans from harassing customer service. As a bonus, knowing that we have a "second chance" would prevent some of us from experiencing this step as a tedious alignment exercise that can quickly be spoiled by a hazardous installation ... Some parts are supplied in double, I think the stickers, weak links of the LEGO concept, deserve the same treatment.
Finally, in the chapter of grievances (it's almost Christmas ...) and since it seems from the trailer that the machine is a creation on the fly in mode Master Builder, a possible secondary model would have been welcome, just to extend the "creative experience".
Unless this Scuttler / Batbooster enjoys a very important screen presence, I'm not sure this set is a staple of the range. Collectors of minifigs will still be able to acquire the various characters at retail if the unit price remains reasonable,
This futuristic looking machine is more difficult to handle and we often wonder which side to take it in hand. Before buying this box, remember that other sets in this range deserve more credit in your wallet.
