LEGO City 60134 Fun at the Park

The initiative went almost unnoticed during the surge of visuals of the new LEGO products for the second half of the year that has just taken place from Nuremberg and yet it deserves to be talked about: LEGO will finally deliver in the City set 60134 Fun at the Park his first minifigure representing a disabled person.

Among the 14 minifigs provided in this box, which is scheduled to be released next summer, is a young boy in his wheelchair. According to the visual of the box, the child is obviously accompanied by a dog, without knowing if the animal has a function that goes beyond simple company.

It's good news. LEGO thus reacts in a concrete way to the criticisms concerning the lack of diversity in the content of its products and joins Playmobil which had announced in May 2015 the marketing of products featuring characters affected by various disabilities.

Playmobil had also reacted to the awareness campaign ToysLikeMe whose organizers had also challenged LEGO on the absence of characters with a disability in its range of minifigs.

Each child, disabled or not, who will play with the contents of this box will be confronted with this character. It will then be up to parents to take the time to explain to children who are not directly concerned by the problem of disability what this chair represents with a seated minifigure.
