LEGO today briefly takes stock of the state of its production capacities, no doubt to explain the availability problems on many references encountered in particular during the operation. May the 4th : The manufacturer's factories located in Europe (Denmark, Hungary, Czech Republic) and Asia (China) continue to produce but the manufacturing unit located in Monterey, Mexico has been temporarily closed following the decision of the Mexican government to stop non-essential activities.
LEGO also indicates that demand has been strong in recent months and states that it has done its utmost to supply all markets and supply its customers and online resellers.
Finally, the manufacturer specifies that the current situation will have no impact for the moment on the withdrawal schedule for end-of-life references from the catalog. In short: the marketing period for sets that are no longer available in stock will not be extended.
"... During the past few months we have seen a strong demand for our products as families and hobbyists turn to building to help them get through this difficult period. As a result, we have been working incredibly hard to make sure that our products are available online in our stores and our retail partners' ecommerce sites. We have been fortunate that our factories in Europe and Asia continue to operate. Our factory in Mexico has been closed for the past few weeks after the Mexican government ordered all non-essential manufacturing sites to close while the country focussed on preventing the spread of the virus. We have been using our full global supply chain to ship products to all markets and fulfil orders as best as possible. While COVID has created a very dynamic and uncertain environment, at this stage it hasn't impacted decisions about when to retire products ... " |
