LEGO today unveils a new addition to the LEGO Ideas range: the set 21330 Home Alone House I based sur Alex Storozhuk's proposal aka adwind which had in its time gathered the 10.000 supporters essential for the examination of the project by LEGO and which had then been definitively approved.
For those wondering about the context of the product, this set is based on the film Mom I missed the plane ! (Home Alone), a "Christmas" film released in 1990 and since broadcast regularly during the end of year celebrations which has allowed it to seduce several generations. A reboot of the franchise, which has been stretched to the rope with four successive sequels much less successful than the original film, will also be available on Disney + from November 12, 2021. The product in question today refers to the original film with Macaulay Culkin as young Kevin McCallister and Joe Pesci as burglar Harry Lyme.
We had to respect the initial idea, posted on the LEGO Ideas platform, which had won over a large audience and LEGO does not do things by halves with a construction of 34 cm long, 37 cm wide and 27 cm high, a total inventory of 3955 pieces, a light brick for the boiler, 5 minifigs (Kevin McCallister, Harry Lyme, Marv Murchins, Kate McCallister and Marley) and a retail price set at € 249.99.
If the exterior appearance of the McCallister family house is logically similar to that of the initial project, LEGO has chosen to make this large construction a real modular playset as accessible as a dollhouse. Like a Structure, the different levels of the house can be removed to access all the rooms and the facade opens onto rather opulent interior fittings. The various traps imagined by young Kevin to protect the house from burglars are obviously reproduced, those who want to have a little fun with this product can do so.
The van in the colors of the OH-KAY recovery company used by burglars is obviously part of it, this vehicle which has already been the subject of multiple reproductions by various manufacturers of toys and models finally has its LEGO variation. The set does not escape a large handful of stickers, it will have to be done with.
Like many of us, I have watched this cult film many times since my childhood and have fond memories of it. From there to spending 250 € to offer me a large reproduction of the house of the film, admittedly very well done, there is still a step that I will not take. A less ambitious derivative under $ 100 might have convinced me to check out.
Availability scheduled for November 1, 2021 on the official online store and in the LEGO Stores.
Bonus: From November 1 to 30, 2021, LEGO will be offering a contest that will allow the winners to win vouchers and copies of the set: it will be about finding the minifig of Kevin McCallister hidden on the official store and in the LEGOs Stores to be able to register for the raffle. For minifigs hidden in some LEGO Stores, you will need to scan a QR Code to access the entry form.
