The last session of the LEGO Inside Tour 2016 has just ended and many reports are now posted by the various participants.
Julien, a blog reader, was there and he tells us in a few lines about his feelings and the meetings he was able to have on site.

About the organization of the LEGO Inside Tour:

I arrived the day before, Tuesday, and spent one more night at the LEGOLAND hotel, (around 165 euros per night with breakfast) and left on Friday afternoon. It all ended around 12:00 on Friday. The weather was good, the weather was great !!! Everything is set almost to the minute, the group leaders were very friendly and attentive (thank you Chris, Astrid and Kasper). The designers are attentive and very available. I was staying in the Kingdoms theme, in a master bedroom. I was entitled to goodies including a rose [852786], polybags on each headboard and a one-year pass for LEGOLAND Park. |
On the various meetings with the LEGO designers:
| Some highlights: The meeting with Niels Milan who was one of the three designers of the Space Classic range, only he remains in activity. He holds in his hand the 1st model he designed. Having spent my childhood playing with Classic Spaces it was crazy to be able to meet him and be able to talk to him. When I asked him how he conceived the models at that time, only one word: “the imagination”… His specialty is the creation of animal and vegetative parts from molding, he participated in the creation of animals from the DINO ranges and more recently to the Jurassic World range. He still works "old-fashioned" ... He does not have a PC, he is a reference figure in Billund. He gave us a skeleton of which he is the creator with an autographed 2x2 round tile. They can be seen in the photo including all the gifts and goodies. There was also the meeting with the manager of the Technic range who presented the set to us. 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the big novelties of August in preview including the set 42055 Bucket Wheel Excavator and the set 42054 CLAAS XERION 5000 TRAC VC that we could handle and admire for fans of the range. We also met one of the main designers of the Ninjago range who designed and presented us the much anticipated and disappointing for some 70590 Airjitzu Battle Grounds. He gave us a collector's version of Cole RX with translucent orange forearms in a case. We were treated to the coming of a lot of designers including Chris, designer of the set LEGO Creator Expert 10252 Volkswagen Beetle and Jamie Berard came with the set LEGO Creator Expert 10253 Big Ben They stayed with us for the building challenge, in the evening until very late for some. Following the results there was the presentation of "specific" trophies (it is not a set but an internal trophy that I did not find top) for the first 3 and we all got a set. LEGO Ideas 21305 Maze as a gift. I had it signed by all the designers: Jamie Berard, Niels Milan, Mark Stafford etc… The following days: meal at the designers' self-service room where I met Marcos Bessa, designer in particular of sets 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier, 71016 The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart, 75827 Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters ou 10236 Ewok Village. Very nice I took a photo with him. The last evening, meal in a restaurant in the park in the LEGOREDO world "The Blacksmith's grillhouse". I was seated next to Jamie Berard. |
On the proposed activities:

Visit of the Factory parts factory, of the "Vault" with the stored sets, of the LEGO Idea House where the Porsche was well displayed with a part just for her… and on Thursday afternoon 2 hours at the "Employee Shop" with everything at 50% and we were entitled to a box shipped by LEGO. For my part, I put the 75827 Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters (we all did that I think), the 70751 Temple of Airjitzu and 71016 The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart . The 3 boxes went straight in there was not even room for a polybag or other. At half the price it's really worth it. And I received everything 2 weeks later with DHL. During the visit to the factory we visited the service which returns the missing parts to customers in a set, they explained to us that it was still made by people and not robotic ... it felt a bit "old school" when we sees just before all the machinery of robots and the colossal warehouse…. No photos because devices prohibited. Also in this service we were treated to a small bag each with boxes of pieces of minifigs (torsos, legs, heads and hair or headgear) and we were able to fill the bag with what we wanted in 2 minutes flat. , you just had to be able to zip it ... There were some exclusive torsos, from all ranges. |

And to top it off, the exclusive gift, the set 4000022 LEGO Truck Show appointed by Steen Sig Andersen who also made the LIT gift last year, he also designed the set 10196 Grand Carousel and recently participated in the finalization of the set LEGO Ideas 21305 Maze. There was also Mickael Medsen who designed the instruction booklet. We were able to take pictures with them + signings. The set is top I think with 816 pieces, including one excluded (yellow door), stickers and a lot of minifigs… For me it is the best set of all BEDs with the 4000012 Piper Airplane and 4000001 molding machine. |

I spent 3 extra days, the only French in this group: out of the 34 participants there were 9 Americans (the most represented) and a little from all the countries of the world, and quite a few women… Parity respected… and a few children . So I unraveled my English but it was. Of course it's expensive [DKK 14500 - € 1949] but if you have the means when you are a fan, AFOL, or other it is to be done. Some will say “I prefer to use the money for something else…” but each one does as he wishes. Only negative point: it goes too quickly and the Building Challenge of 1er evening should be postponed because those who arrive at night after a long flight are a little slammed and at the end of the evening the imagination is not too much to go ... Last set purchased, the set 4000016 Billund Airport sold only in the departures area. |
