LEGO today unveils the new version of its Mindstorms kit: the reference 51515 Inventor Robot. This kit will take over the set by the end of the year 31313 Mindstorms EV3 launched in 2013. Public price announced: 359.99 €
In the box, 949 pieces to assemble in turn five robots with different capacities and create your own models with in particular a new intelligent hub, a color (8 colors) / brightness sensor, a distance sensor with programmable "eyes" and a 6-pin adapter for additional sensors, four motors with rotation sensor and absolute positioning, one in Teal (Duck blue) of the new Technic 7x11 plate, and new wheels. The hub and the four M motors are identical to those present in the LEGO Education set 45678 Spike Prime (399.99 €), only the color of the trim changes.
The new hub supplied is capable of storing the code generated via the application and has six inputs / outputs which can accommodate the various sensors and motors, it displays information via a 5x5 LED matrix, it has Bluetooth connectivity, a sensor movement with 6-axis accelerometer / gyroscope, a micro-USB port, a speaker and a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. LEGO also mentions that it will be possible to use an external controller, a PS4 or XBOX controller, to control the different robots.
Purchase of the kit provides access to the application based on the visual programming language Scratch and LEGO promises compatibility with the Python language. The application will be available for Windows, macOS, IOS, Android environments and for some devices under FireOS (A variant of Android developed by Amazon for its in-house products).
LEGO will not provide instructions in paper format in the box, everything will be within the application which allows you to program the different robots and have fun by taking up around fifty challenges.
As with the previous kit, the five robots that can be assembled in turn and programmed using the supplied inventory have little names and are capable of performing different actions: Blast can knock down and grab objects. He can be programmed to monitor a specific area and react to danger by shooting the darts placed at the end of his right arm.
Charlie is a companion capable of dancing, drumming and carrying small items. Tricky is the athlete of the group: he can play basketball, bowling or football. Ice is a four-legged robot with sophisticated movement capabilities. Finally, MVP (For Modular Vehicle Platform) is a multifunction robot that can be transformed into a crane, a mobile turret or a brick collector that can be controlled via a personalized virtual remote control.
