Funcom, publisher of the LEGO Minifigures Online video game has just released its annual accounts for 2015.
Throughout the pages of this somewhat indigestible document we learn that this game, offered in Freemium (free with in-app purchases) at the beginning then paid for during the year 2015, does not bring much more to the studio and that the planned objectives were not reached in 2014 and 2015:
Funcom communicated in the Q3 2014 report that the initial numbers coming in from the first weeks of live data indicated that it would take longer than planned to achieve the internal targets for player and returned in 2014 and 2015. The Company has during 2015 been unable to improve these numbers. As a result of this the revenues generated by LEGO® Minifigures Online did not meet the internal forecasts. The Company has therefore fully written off the underlying assets of the game. The license agreement with LEGO for the LEGO® Minifigures Online game ends October 2016. |
As a logical consequence of this financial finding, the development team in charge of the game has been relocated to other projects:
The LEGO® Minifigures Online game launched on all platforms in June 2015 and was kept up to date with the release of several LEGO® Minifigures physical products during the year. Due to the low revenues originating from this product, the development team was moved to other projects. |
Updates to the game should therefore be very rare in the coming months and Collectible Minifig Series 16 (71013) should in principle be the last to integrate codes to unlock the virtual versions of the different characters in the game.
The contract between Funcom and LEGO ending in October 2016, we know the rest ...
