We suspected that this would eventually happen: LEGO seems to have finally taken the measure of the growing interest of fans for LED lighting kits to integrate into official sets with a field already well occupied by many third-party manufacturers.
It is within the framework of the demonstration Lego world which is currently taking place in Copenhagen that the manufacturer presents what could become a range of products dedicated to the integration of lighting in our constructions, all grouped under the name LEGO Night Mode.
However, this is only a first phase of theoretical testing to assess the interest of fans (the boxes are empty and the kits are not for sale) and the public prices displayed are up to the reputation of the manufacturer. : 329 DKK (approx. 44 €) to turn on the headlights and illuminate the interior of the vehicle from the LEGO Creator Expert set 10265 Ford Mustang (1471 pieces - 139.99 €), 649 DKK (around 87 €) for the kit to integrate into the tree branches of the LEGO Ideas set 21318 Treehouse (3036 pieces - 199.99 €) and 1449 DKK (around 194 €) for the kit that will bring the LEGO Harry Potter set to life 71043 Hogwarts Castle (6020 pieces - 419.99 €).
We do not yet know the technical solution used by LEGO for these kits (wired? Wireless?), Nor the difficulty and the level of integration and concealment of the different elements, integration not always very successful on the kits from third-party manufacturers.
It also remains to be verified that the fans will agree to spend the relatively high amounts requested by LEGO for these various "official" kits when much less expensive third-party solutions for a priori similar result in terms of highlighting the set concerned are already in progress. sale elsewhere. Purists who refuse to add products from "alternative sources" may find their account there despite the prices announced.
LEGO's response to questions from fans who discover this "project" from Lead User Lab, a kind of think tanks intended to bring together more or less original ideas for future products:
... We're doing a test in Lead User Lab. We know many adult fans love them, so we wanted to do more research and better understand the regular consumer appeal too. We've got a lot of good response and feedback so far. We're hoping these insights will contribute to building a potential pilot in the future ... |

Update : LEGO uses products marketed by the company Light my Bricks for the models currently on display on the shelves of the convention store Lego world. The problem: another manufacturer of lighting solutions for LEGO products, brickstuff, believes that Light my Bricks purely and simply copied the design of its products.
Brickstuff had already come into contact with LEGO in 2019 as part of the program's research Lead User Lab in terms of lighting solutions, but the manufacturer was not selected for a possible collaboration, LEGO preferring to rely on the company Light my Bricks, accused of plagiarism by Brickstuff. Drama guaranteed.
