Thanks to the publication of photos of certain pages of the second half of 2013 catalogue intended for retailers, we learn a little more about the two most anticipated sets in the LEGO Star Wars range for 2013: 75020 Jabba's Sail Barge and 75021 Republic Gunship.
Before any comment, it should be mentioned that these visuals are in preliminary version and that the final design of their content will undoubtedly change significantly between now and the actual marketing of the sets in question.
Despite everything, we can already draw some conclusions:
Set 75020 Jabba's Sail Barge is much less ambitious than the 2006 set (6210 Jabba's Sail Barge - 781 pieces - 8 minifigures), which will undoubtedly remain a benchmark for years to come. The published image shows a smaller barge, 6 minifigures including Max Rebo and Jabba (identical to the minifigure in set 9516 Jabba's Palace ), some rather...curvy lines, and a lot of studs...
Those who were counting on this set to avoid spending too much money on the 2006 version will be disappointed if the final design doesn't evolve significantly. Unfortunately, even if the finish improves with the final set, the proportions are expected to remain the same. So, we'll have a Chibi-Sail-Barge in 2013.
Regarding set 75021 Republic Gunship , I really feel like I'm seeing the same ship over and over again... There are few improvements in this image compared to the same ship in set 7676 Republic Attack Gunship from 2008. It includes 7 minifigures, including Amidala in her AOTC outfit, and the finish will likely be updated for the final set. There are also no stickers on the sides in this preliminary image.
Let's be patient and wait for the first official presentation by LEGO of these new products at the next Toy Fair.
