After intensive teasing but a bit stale due to the many leaks, LEGO today unveils the Stranger Things set 75810 The Upside Down (2287 pieces - 199.99 €), the result of a partnership between the manufacturer and Netflix. Immediate availability for members of the VIP program and from June 1, 2019 for others.
For all those who would be offended by the fact that LEGO markets a derivative product (moreover stamped 16+) of a series which offers some scenes a little violent or bloody, I recall that in Star Wars we are entitled to a couple of old burnt farmers, a guy who gets cut in half, another who has his hand cut off, another whose limbs are burnt by molten lava, etc ... The Lord of the Rings license is also based on an ultra-violent universe with mass killings galore using all types of bladed weapons, and the universe of Indiana Jones is rich in gory scenes of guys who decompose, who pass under the wheels from a truck, which are eaten by crocodiles or ants, etc.
Stranger Things is an interesting series, but it's not a "cult" series in the usual sense of the word and it's best to beat the iron while it's hot (and there are fans). The series which refers to many universes of the 80s from which it takes again the atmosphere and the codes (The Goonies, Stand by Me, ET, Shining, Carrie, etc ...) is one of the big Netflix successes of these recent years and the placements of various and varied products are legion over the episodes (Kellog's Eggo, KFC, Dungeons & Dragons, etc ...),. I'm also happy to bet on a nice LEGO product placement in season 3 ....
Apart from the pumpkin and a few other accessories that refer to season 2, the set is based on the first season of the series released in 2016 including a version of Eleven with her pink dress and blonde wig, the family home. Byers with the alphabet that allows Will to communicate with his mother and the four (very) young heroes who have already grown up in season 2 and who will be even older in the third season whose release is announced for the month of next July.
Casting of children requires, the product is already a little dated and eventually will only refer to the first season of the series. Only the two adult characters from the set and Jim Hopper's vehicle will still be relevant this year. And Dustin has had teeth since season 2 ...
Minifig collectors will gripe because the set only offers a small portion of the series' cast, but you'll have to do with what LEGO offers here:
That being said, if you are a fan of the series and of LEGO, this product is a nice creative tribute to the concept of "Upside-down world“(Upside Down) developed over the seasons. It's more expensive than a simple wall poster, t-shirt or mug, but this luxury derivative should find its audience.
We go on very quickly with a "Review ".
