LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76170 Iron Man vs. Thanos

Today we return to the LEGO Marvel Avengers universe with the set 76170 Iron Man vs. Thanos, a reference of 103 pieces stamped 4+ which will be available from March 1st at the public price of € 19.99.

In the box, we find something to assemble two constructions which immediately seem a little off topic and which obviously only offer a very limited challenge, even if this is the purpose of the 4+ universe intended for the youngest fans in transition course from the DUPLO range to more classic products.

The "starter brick", as LEGO names it in the official product description, is the base of Tony Stark's ship here. It is on this large piece that the handful of elements are placed which allows to obtain a somewhat coarse jet with a open cockpit Even though the ship deserved to be completely closed, the youngest will have no trouble installing or removing Tony Stark from this spacious, easily accessible cockpit.

The ship in question seems to be more or less inspired by that seen in Doctor Strange comic # 1 published in June 2018 but we can also imagine that the designer is vaguely referring here toy marketed in 2009 in the range Marvel crossovers. LEGO designers have their influences and their childhood memories and it is not uncommon to find traces of them in their creations, it may be the case here.

Two pad printed parts are integrated into the ship with on one side a few control screens in the cockpit and a hood with an ARC Reactor. This piece may find a second life among MOCeurs who want to tinker with a Hulkbuster. The ship is equipped with two Disc shooters side which will only be of interest as long as the young owner of the set has not yet lost the three ammunition provided.

Opposite, we're building a rotating turret for Thanos. The thing, which looks like a product from the defunct range Mighty Microphones, is equipped with the new dart launcher which replaces the previous model since last year. LEGO only provides one ammunition, it's a bit petty, and two pad-printed pieces that take up the pattern visible on the character's torso dress the sides of the barrel. The playability could have been maximum if LEGO had planned a turret orientable on a vertical axis but this is unfortunately not the case. It is still a question of targeting a ship and not a car.

The two main constructions are accompanied by an alcove protected on one side by lasers in the middle of which there is an Infinity Gauntlet. The coin used here is just a Oversized Minifig Hand as there are in many other boxes at LEGO since 2013. No trace of the Infinity Stones on the glove, it is necessary to be satisfied with a generic element not padprinted.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76170 Iron Man vs. Thanos

As for the two minifigs delivered in this box, nothing new or exclusive: the Iron Man figurine is the one already seen since 2020 in the sets 76140 Iron Man Mech, 76152 Avengers Wrath of Loki76153 Avengers Helicarrier76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster versus AIM Agent76166 Avengers Tower Battle et 76167 Iron Man Armory. It was also offered with the official LEGO Marvel Avengers magazine in November 2020.

Thanos' minifigure is the one in the set 76141 Thanos Mech (2020), the pair of legs less pad printed. The 76141 set therefore remains the only solution to obtain a minifig dressed from head to toe, it is also sold for € 9.99.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76170 Iron Man vs. Thanos

So there is not much to chew on in this little box, except maybe apart from the two pretty colored supports called "Energy Stands"by LEGO. These two pieces are rather original and they allow to beautifully stage the minifigures. They also provide an appreciable aesthetic solution when it comes to trying to stabilize characters overloaded with various and varied equipment that have a Little trouble to stand up The MOCeurs will eventually find their use on ship reactors.

In short, this box sold for 20 € does not have many arguments to make whether in the field of the construction challenge or that of the characters. Even the gameplay is only relative with the inability to orient the turret upwards to aim at Tony Stark's ship. It is therefore in my opinion possible to do much better with 20 €, even for a young child.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio

Today we are quickly interested in the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes set 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio, a box of 439 pieces sold for 49.99 € which features Spider-Man, Spider-Gwen, Doctor Octopus and Mysterio.

This set is in line with those who force us to assemble a more or less successful Spider-vehicle, we must provide something that rolls or flies to build in these boxes intended for the youngest. The Spider Truck delivered here is not uninteresting and it combines a very successful look with some functionalities: The net launcher is deployed by turning the yellow knob placed on the side of the vehicle, the driving position is accessible by removing the roof of the cabin and the machine will evolve on all terrains thanks to a substantial ground clearance and a very simple pseudo-suspension which is based on the usual Technic rubber elements (4198367).

The truck is covered with stickers in the colors of its owner, right down to the red rims with a spider web pattern. Why not, even if Spider-Man in principle doesn't really need a Monster Truck with canvas launcher except perhaps to integrate the Tour de France caravan.

Spider-Man will therefore be able to roll on Doc Ock and Mysterio after having knocked out the two very successful drones visibly inspired by those seen in the film Spider-Man: Far From Home. If we do not count the arms of Octopus, these two drones equipped with Stud Shooters perfectly integrated are the only mechanical opposition to Monster Truck and we can always have fun trying to capture them with the net launcher integrated in the back of the truck. In fact, this springless launcher does not launch much.

It may be missing two supports based on transparent parts to be able to put the two drones in flight position, it's a shame that LEGO hardly ever thinks of providing us with something to give a little height to the flying devices. The parts used in the photo below are not included in the box.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio

As for the minifigs to recover in this box, we get four characters. The Spider-Man minifig with its pad-printed arms is identical to the one delivered since the beginning of the year in the sets 76172 Spider-Man and Sandman Showdown (9.99 €) and 76173 Spider-Man and Ghost Rider vs. Carnage (19.99 €), two boxes cheaper than this one to which you will have to turn if you only want the minifig in question.

Spider-Gwen's minifig on her skateboard is no different from the sets 76115 Spider Mech vs. Venom (2019) et 76149 The Menace of Mysterio (2020) than by the new hood provided in this set. It's up to you to see if this new element which finally allows the rotation of the character's head, which the "classic" hood did not allow, justifies the acquisition of this minifigure. I notice an improvement in the depth of the black pad-printed pattern on the figurine's white torso, it's finally more or less in line with the legs.

Mysterio's minifig uses the torso already seen in the set 76149 The Menace of Mysterio (2020) but LEGO replaces the transparent globe with an opaque version. Why not, we can no longer distinguish the neutral head on which we plug the globe and that's not bad. the character also benefits from a base in which the entire minifigure is inserted without having to remove the legs first. The part is identical to the one already seen on the Nehmaar Reem figurine in the Hidden Side set 70437 Mystery Castle, and it seems to me perfectly suited to embody the vaporous side of Mysterio. Those who find it irrelevant can always put it away and keep a Mysterio that stands on its two legs.

The Doc Ock figurine, which seems to me frankly inspired by the version of the character seen in the Marvel's Spider-Man video game, is therefore the only one to use completely new elements with a torso and a head with very successful pad printing. The character's back is obscured by the massive mechanical gear he uses, but LEGO hasn't skimped on the details.

The hair used here is a good compromise to ensure fidelity to the look of the character in the game, it is also that of Peter Venkman, Red Guardian or Bob Cratchit. The tentacles clipped to the back of the minifig are sufficiently mobile and they allow many positions and playful possibilities, even if I finally find these appendages a little oversized. The good side of the thing: you have to put them together and that's always what it takes knowing you're buying a construction toy. The most observant will have noticed that none of the characters in this box has pad-printed legs. There are no small savings.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio

In short, this box sold for 50 € which draws its inspiration from different universes and frankly extrapolates in passing should appeal to the youngest with its Monster Truck in Spider-Man colors. It offers a lot of fun with a relatively balanced opposition between the vehicle armed with its slightly sluggish net launcher and the two pretty over-armed drones.

The collectors of minifigs will perhaps be a little on their hunger, it is necessary to be satisfied with an unpublished Doc Ock, two characters already seen in their respective forms which are simply here equipped with different accessories and a version of Spider -Man who has become very accessible for much less. The most patient will wait wisely for the price of the set to drop below € 35/40, which is sure to happen very quickly.

Note: The set presented here, provided by LEGO, is as usual involved. Deadline fixed at 8th February 2021 next at 23pm. "The" I try, I participate "are automatically deleted, make an effort.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76173 Spider-Man and Ghost Rider vs. Carnage

Today we are quickly interested in the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes set 76173 Spider-Man and Ghost Rider vs. Carnage, a small box of 212 pieces sold for 19.99 € which could easily go unnoticed but which in my opinion deserves better than to be considered as a product which has nothing to offer other than a handful of minifigs.

Ghost Rider is not what we can call a recurring character at LEGO, we have to go back to 2016 to find the only minifig of the character already marketed with the version of the set 76058 Spider-Man: Ghost Rider Team-up. We then added to our collections Johnny Blaze and his motorcycle, a machine that vaguely resembled the chopper driven by the character in different comics.

In this new box we get Robbie Reyes with his Dodge Charger and the appearance of the minifig confirms that LEGO was inspired by the version of the character seen on screen in the 4th season of the Marvel's Agents of SHIELD series more than that of the comic book run All-New Ghost Rider published in 2014/2015.

The vehicle to be built is largely on the level of what the Speed Champions range offered in the set 75893 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon & 1970 Dodge Charger R / T released in 2019. Both Dodge Chargers are similar except for a few details and this new version adds a touch of playability by replacing the Supercharger of the engine by Stud Shooters that are delusional.

By removing a few body parts to free up connection points, Robbie Reyes' vehicle can go into Ghost Rider mode using a copy of the orange-colored bag of items often included in sets in the LEGO Marvel range. Super Heroes and the effect obtained is quite convincing with some fiery touches that do not detract from the overall appearance of the car.

The assortment of minifigs delivered in this set will not necessarily seem very consistent to everyone and one may wonder what Spider-Man and Carnage are doing in this box. I would gladly have been content with a few gang members who want to do battle with Robbie Reyes but you probably had to make sure the set attracts the younger ones and Spider-Man is generally the ideal candidate.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76173 Spider-Man and Ghost Rider vs. Carnage

Robbie Reyes' minifigure is in my opinion really successful and it's hardly the neutral pair of legs that leaves me hungry for more. The character's face conforms to the version seen on the screen and the torso takes the design of the jacket worn by actor Gabriel Luna.

Too bad that LEGO does not provide us with an alternative head for the character, so that we can choose between Robbie Reyes driving his "classic" Dodge Charger and Ghost Rider driving his fiery car.

In any case, I much prefer this version of Ghost Rider to the one in the set. 76058 Spider-Man: Ghost Rider Team-up who was content to adapt a white head like we find on LEGO skeletons using a somewhat coarse pad printing.

The Carnage minifigure is the one already seen in the set 76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue (2019) et 76163 Venom Crawler (2020), that of Spider-Man with his arms with really covering pad printing is new but it is also delivered in the other two sets marketed since the beginning of the year (76172 Spider-Man and Sandman Showdown et 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio).

The increase in the area of the arms covered by the pattern is very good news, it now remains to solve the color difference problem on the assortments of parts with inverted colors: Red on a blue background is darker than red tinted throughout the rest of the torso.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76173 Spider-Man and Ghost Rider vs. Carnage

Like many of you, I have come to realize over the waves of new releases released in recent years: with a few exceptions, the content of many sets in the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes range is too often only a pretext to make us pay a high price for a few minifigs. But I think, for once, that's not necessarily the case here as long as you really want to get a version of Ghost Rider that has long deserved to be part of the LEGO assortment.

Two unseen minifigs out of three and a pretty unpretentious vehicle but well within the theme for € 19.99? I say yes, we often have less than that for at least as much.

Note: The set presented here, provided by LEGO, is as usual involved. Deadline fixed at 18th January 2021 next at 23pm. "The" I try, I participate "are automatically deleted, make an effort.
