When a designer tries his hand at MOC Star Wars, the result is more or less successful but always interesting ...
Omar Ricardo Ovalle, Colombian designer gives us his reinterpretation of the LEGO Star Wars range with some good ideas, other much more questionable and a high-level staging. We will like or not the proposed creations, but they cannot leave you indifferent. In any case, his creations deserve a close look, in order to imagine what could have been the LEGO Star Wars range in a parallel world ...
Here is the set 6207 Droid Fighter, used in the early fights of the Clone Wars. The design is sober, and perhaps a little basic, although respecting the spirit of the range offered by LEGO in the 2000s. Fans of the Classic Space range will find some well-known pieces there.
This set 8083 Ewok AMP (Chief Chirpa) would not mismatch with what we know in the Star Wars range like sets 7139 Ewok Attack from 2002, 7956 Ewok Attack from 2011, or the set 8038 The Battle of Endor released in 2009. Chief Chirpa therefore has a machine adapted to the forest environment of Endor which allows him to move on the ground, but also to perform short flights through the forest.
Now here is the set 7110 Landspeeder II, driven by Obi-Wan Kenobi and offered in Limited Edition. It's not my favorite, even if the choice of colors and shape respects the universe of the Star Wars range relatively well.
Much more convincing, here is the set 7669 Rebel Scout Speeder II, close cousin of the set 7668 Rebel Scout Speeder released in 2008. We find the same functions as those of its official counterpart, with a removable heavy cannon, and a frame housing the troops protected by anti-blaster shields.
This set 6376 Shadow Starfighter, probably inspired by the many interpretations of the Tie Fighter over the years, doesn't really appeal to me. Looks more like a bad MOC than an inspired designer creation. It at least has the merit of fitting into the early Star Wars range, with its somewhat coarse design and characteristic canopy.
With the set 8185 Snowtrooper Battle Pack, we find the spirit of these small boxes called "Battle Pack" allowing to afford some minifigs and a machine at a good price, to complete a diorama or increase the number of troops on each side. The proposed "Snowmobile" is interesting, the cannon on wheels a little less ...
Finally, here is the set 4268 Wookiee StarShip, which if it has the merit of remaining in the spirit of the range, is not really a successful machine in my opinion. We are still very far from the classic Wookie Flyer. For the anecdote, this Wookie Starship would have been designed on Endor with the help of the Ewoks.
In the end, I find this initiative interesting, even if the result is not always up to the task (LEGO sometimes is not more so ...). It allows to get an idea of the vision of a designer who approaches the world of LEGOs with a new eye and who offers his interpretation of a complex universe populated by demanding and uncompromising AFOLs.
