The list of sets planned for 2021 in the LEGO CITY range is becoming clearer and you can already imagine that among all these boxes we will find buckets of police officers, thieves and firefighters. You don't change a winning team and LEGO renews its offer in this area every year to attract more and more children who enter the hobby (see the list below).
The classic road plates that we have known so far will definitely disappear from the manufacturer's offer and will be replaced early next year by modular assemblies which should look like the 3D rendering below:
Exit therefore the usual plates and return to a little more construction with these assemblies which according to the interpretation offered by Stonewars seem to me quite convincing. Those who refuse to switch their dioramas to this new system and prefer to keep their classic plates will anyway find something to continue to expand their cities via the secondary market.
This new system should however pose a problem for all those who place a few road signs in front of their Modulars : These new streets being composed of a double thickness of standard parts, the sidewalk Tile of a building placed on a thinner classic base plate will then end up a little below street level.
For now, the references 60236 Straight & T-Junction et 60237 Curve & Crossroad, both sold at the public price of 9.99 €, are still available on the official online store and are not presented as end of life.
Finally, it seems that the elements allowing to build these "new" LEGO CITY roads will be distributed in different boxes of the range stamped with the mention "My CITY" and at least four references of the first half of 2021 including a set proposing a crossing, traffic lights and some signs, will start to build these streets:
