The excellent TheBrickBlogger provides the information: A new version of the brick separator will be delivered with the 10230 Mini Modulars set and should be available separately afterwards.
Among the changes is a Technic axle that will allow for the extraction of stuck LEGO axles. The handle of this new brick separator has also been refined to allow for effortless tile removal. The design beneath the separator has been modified to allow for the removal of Jumper Plates ( 1x2 plates with a central stud), something the previous model could not do.
In short, that's good, but we'll have to wait a little longer to stop breaking our nails on parts that are too well assembled ....
