LEGO has just announced the result of the second phase of LEGO Ideas evaluation for the year 2020, a batch which brought together 35 more or less successful ideas but which had all been able to gather the 10.000 necessary supports. This is the project Vincent van Gogh: The Starry Night submitted by legotruman (Truman Cheng) who is the only one to be definitively validated.
For those who do not know, the proposed project is a relief interpretation of the famous painting The Starry Night painted in 1889 by Van Gogh during his visit to the asylum of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Under the starry sky, we therefore find the Provencal village, a cypress and the Alpilles in the background. Even if the subject is the fruit of a tormented mind, the official product that will be inspired by this project will undoubtedly offer a new "relaxing" lifestyle experience for stressed adults. All that will be missing is the soundtrack with the cicadas to accompany the assembly.
Everything else goes directly by the wayside, for undoubtedly various and varied reasons which are not officially communicated by LEGO. Exit Ratatouille, Night at the Museum, Portal, Community, Animal Crossing, Naruto, Avatar and company, the message is clear. If these licenses, series, films or characters are ever to arrive at LEGO, it will most likely not be through the LEGO Ideas range. Too bad for the Trabant, for once we could have gotten a square LEGO car that's like the real one ...
The real good news of the day for me: The project Sonic Mania - Green Hill Zone by Viv Grannell, which was still under review since the first phase of the 2020 review, the result of which was announced in September of last year, is also definitively validated. LEGO confirms that the project is now in the adaptation phase to become an official product and that SEGA is in the game. I remind you that Sonic is not a stranger at LEGO, the character was the star of one of the extensions of the late concept LEGO Dimensions (71244 Sonic The Hedgehog Level Pack).
If you have time to spare, you can always try to guess who will be the winner of the next review phase, the results of which will be revealed next summer. We can already eliminate at least the Colosseum (already done), the Boeing 737 (too many crashes), the game that we do not understand (we understand nothing), Fall Guys (the hype has fallen), Avatar The Last Airbender ( license already rejected today), the Bag End (already done), the MRI scanner (too depressing), the garbage truck (too CITY) and the Modulars (preserve).
