As we suspected, many MOCeurs are starting to use the domes of the sets in the Planet Series range to develop ingenious creations.
SPARKART! offers a nice creation with this R2-D2 whose dome is composed of half a Death Star from set 9676 Tie Interceptor & Death Star.
The articulated arms are actually a reference to an artwork by Ralph McQuarrie, official illustrator of the Star Wars universe, who features R2-D2 following C-3PO to discover Tatooine after the two metallic cronies crash with the Escape Pod.
