LEGO Marvel 76140 Iron Man Mech, 76141 Thanos Mech and 76146 Spider-Man Mech

Today we are doing a group shot around the LEGO Marvel sets 76140 Iron Man Mech (148 pieces), 76141 Thanos Mech (152 pieces) and 76146 Spider-Man Mech (152 pieces), three small boxes sold for € 9.99 which allow you to assemble mechs for Iron Man, Thanos and Spider-Man. Everyone knows these three characters never move around without their competitive exoskeletons, with their respective powers and firepower being too limited. Or not.

Admitting that these three superheroes really need mechs, I think LEGO doesn't fare too badly in interpreting the different versions. Visually, we are in the universe of the character concerned, whether in terms of the assortment of colors used or the various attributes that refer to his emblematic characteristics.

However, and despite their aesthetic differences, these different mechs have a lot in common: their structure is similar with a slew of Ball Seals which allow many poses. And this is the whole point of these three slightly gaunt mechs: they are incredibly flexible thanks to the large number of integrated joints and a relatively limited dressing of the limbs which avoids too much stopping points. restrictive.

The obvious compromise between the level of detail and the functionality of these products seems acceptable to me for small sets at 10 € intended for the youngest who can really take advantage of all the flexibility offered here in terms of poses, provided they find the right point. balance for each of these poses.

Each of these mechs therefore has its peculiarities which make it immediately identifiable and associate it with the character who must take place in the cockpit: Spider-Man can launch from the canvas thanks to the Technic pin placed in the palm of each of the hands which allows to plug in the elements that are generally found in the hands of the character's minifigure, Iron-Man has repulsors under his feet and in the palm of his hands and a missile launcher placed behind the right shoulder and Thanos is obviously equipped with his glove on which we find the six Infinity Stones.

There are quite a few stickers to stick on the different pieces of armor here, and Thanos' mech uses the fewest stickers. For each of the mechs, the pieces attached to the torso are pad printed with a spider for Spider-Man, an armor detail on a Nexo Knights shield for Thanos, and a Face Reactor for Iron Man.

The piece that serves as a torso for the different mechs is not new, it is the one that was already used in red in the set. 70363 Battle Suit Macy released in 2017 in the LEGO Nexo Knights range. The version in Pearl Gold used here for Thanos' mech is the one that was delivered in 2018 in the Nexo Knights set 72004 Tech Wizard Showdown. A version Dark Red in my opinion would have been welcome for the Iron Man mech.

Please note that the Tile round to plug on the torso of the Spider-Mech is not exclusive to the set presented here, it is also available in the set 76149 The Menace of Mysterio which we will talk about shortly.

No big surprise on the back of the different mechs, the level of detail is sufficient and does not shock. Spider-Man's even has the luxury of having extensions in the spirit of the Iron Spider armor. The only finishing detail that seems awkward to me here: The gray piece used on Iron Man's hands with its two extensions, only one of which is used for the thumb, the other remaining visible on the back. It was enough to use the Plate 1 x 2 with a single equivalent extension to avoid this somewhat unsightly growth.

The Iron Man mech missile launcher is also well integrated even if one distinguishes for these two accessories the blue pins which serve as fixing points. Iron Man's mech is also the only one of the three to have a really functional weapon. Thanos' mech takes advantage of a few golden pieces that give the armor a little cachet.

Thanks to these three small boxes, we logically obtain three minifigs. That of Spider-Man is far from unseen, it is the figurine already delivered in 2019 in the sets 76133 Spider-Man Car Chase et 76134 Spider-Man: Doc Ock Diamond Heist, then in sets 76147 Vulture's Trucker Robbery et 76149 The Menace of Mysterio marketed this year.

The new Iron Man minifig delivered in the 76140 set is equipped with a one-piece helmet without a movable visor, one wonders why LEGO is delivering us a double-sided head with a version displaying the character's HUD. Judging by the shape of theFace Reactor, this version of Iron Man is directly inspired by the Marvel's Avengers video game, the release of which was initially scheduled for May 2020 but has been postponed until next September.

Thanos is also new and those who were impatiently waiting for an acceptable minifigure version of the character that fits into their Ribba frame will be in heaven, just to replace that of the Mighty Micros set. 76072 Iron Man vs. Thanos released in 2017. If we accept this new interpretation of the character on a reduced scale, we can consider that the pad printing of the outfit and the face of Thanos are quite convincing.

The helmet would have in my opinion deserved a few reasons to increase the level of detail of the piece which seems to me here a little too neutral. It also lacks an accessory in the hands of Thanos, Spider-Man having the right to a few canvases to assemble and Iron-Man to expellable blue lightning to attach to the hands.

In summary, I think that for 10 €, we get here something to please a young fan of the Marvel universe who asks for more than minifigs to really have fun. The different mechs have a dozen points of articulation that allow a wide range of movements for even more "realistic" play sessions.

The similarity of the structure between the three models also allows the creation of hybrid mechs to extend the experience. The overall aesthetic of these three models is not overflowing with creativity, but it was certainly the price to pay to keep all their playability and mobility to different mechs.

Note: The set of three sets presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at 26th February 2020 next at 23pm.
