75283 Armored Assault Tank (AAT)

Today we are quickly interested in the LEGO Star Wars set 75283 Armored Assault Tank (AAT), a small box of 286 pieces sold for 39.99 €, with the two minifigs that many fans of the animated series The Clone Wars were waiting accompanied for the occasion by a few parts which allow to assemble an AAT.

We're not going to lie, the AAT in 2020 version has gone through the wringer and those who have in their collection the version of the set 8018 Armored Assault Tank (AAT) marketed in 2009 will undoubtedly have a little trouble with this new, much more compact model which borrows part of its design from the version of theEpisode I. seen in 2015 in the set 75080 AAT.

The fact remains that this new interpretation of the machine is rather well designed and that it leaves enough internal space to install the two Battle Droids provided. The turret rotates 180 °, the main gun and side guns can be angled for fun and the designer has even two built-in Spring Shooters under the machine. It's playable and this AAT is strong enough to be handled by the youngest.

There are only two stickers in this box, and you will have to do without a few details on the front of the machine such as the missile launcher tubes. But I think we will all agree anyway to conclude that the AAT is here only to serve as a pretext to sell us a new version of Ahsoka Tano and provide us with a Clone Trooper of the 332nd. . The machine is also a little off topic but those who did not have one will kill two birds with one stone.

As for the (real) minifigs delivered in this box, it will therefore be necessary to be satisfied with Ahsoka and a "Ahsoka Clone Trooper", the two Battle Droids being only filler figures without much interest. For 40 €, it is meager.

Ahsoka's latest "adult" minifigure dates back to 2016 with version Fulcrum delivered in the set 75158 Rebel Combat Frigate. The outfit of this new minifigure based on the seventh season of the animated series The Clone Wars is roughly the same as seen on screen, but it lacks the forearm protections to really convince.

The pad prints are impeccable, the part used for the headdress is the one already seen on the head of the other adult version of Ahsoka and on that of Shaak Ti, the face no longer displays the too cartoonish look seen on the other minifigs of the character inspired by the series The Clone Wars and this minifigure will cost you in any case less expensive than that of the set 75158 Rebel Combat Frigate which is sold individually for around 80 € on the secondary market. What more ?

The Ahsoka Clone Trooper, a member of the 332nd Company of the 501st Legion commanded by Ahsoka during the Siege of Mandalore, reuses the head, torso and legs of the Clone Troopers delivered in the set 75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers. It's logic. The helmet is successful, with a pad printing very faithful to the version seen on the screen. Two copies would have been welcome in this set, just to have the start of a squad on hand.

The two Battle Droids delivered here are identical, although LEGO presents them separately on the packaging probably to give some consistency to the set, and they were already in the sets. 75233 Droid Gunship et 75234 AT-AP Walker in 2019. Pad printing on the head and torso in Olive Green save the furniture and prevent us from getting the versions that we all already have in handles of twelve in our drawers. For those who are wondering, the blasters in Pearl Dark Gray that equip the two minifigures have been available from LEGO since 2015.

In short, there is no need to philosophize for a long time about this little box at the somewhat excessive public price which puts everything on the two minifigs provided. Those who refused to buy the set 75158 Rebel Combat Frigate (130.99 €) based on the series Star Wars Rebels and released in 2016 will avoid making the same mistake again if they absolutely want an adult version of Ahsoka Tano without having to feast on aftermarket dealers later.

The Army builders who have invested in a handful of sets 75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers will just have to wait for this new set to end up on sale or for the 332nd Clone's helmet to be retailed on the aftermarket to build up a full squad.

Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at 11th October, 2020 next at 23pm.

Update : The winner was drawn and was notified by email, his nickname is indicated below. Without a response from him to my request for contact details within 5 days, a new winner will be drawn.
