The verdict is in: In a few lines published on the official website of the saga, the committee in charge of putting the pre-Disney Extended Universe on the date has just handed down its verdict by finding an arrangement that is undoubtedly supposed to satisfy everyone and not (too) offend susceptibilities.
The Star Wars Extended Universe as fans have known it is relegated to the shelf "legends" [Legends]. To be precise, here is the definition of the word legend in the Larousse: "A marvelous story, where historical facts are transformed by popular imagination or poetic invention." followed by "Noise, rumor, born from a distortion and amplification of real facts by the imagination."
At Disney, however, we reserve the right to occasionally draw from everything the EU has generated over the years, just to take up good ideas and integrate them into subsequent content.
The new films and other animated series will therefore join the six films released so far and the animated series The Clone Wars in the very closed circle of what will definitely remain "barrel".
These contents will obviously be joined by the animated series Star Wars Rebels as well as everything that Disney will produce in the coming years (films, books, video games, comics, etc.).
Kathleen Kennedy, current president of Lucasfilm, explains to us that this remodeling of the global Star Wars galaxy aims to offer maximum latitude to directors of future content to express their creativity.
It also specifies that the next trilogy will not draw its historical thread from the (numerous) post-Episode VI content existing within the EU.
I was talking about it with a friend who said to me: "Nice post-saga reboot!". Then right after, he added:"Disney still lacks a little respect for a whole community of fans who have fed on content that has filled a void left by Lucas".
I told him that I agreed with both of these statements ...
