holocron

The Star Wars Universe is about to undergo a big change, and that's saying something.

To put it simply, Disney has indeed set up a committee called Lucasfilm Story Group including Leland Chee, The Holocron Keeper, and Pablo Hidalgo are members and who will be responsible for designating what is canon or not in the mass of diverse and varied content that has come to be grafted around the cinematographic saga.

The current, rather complicated system defining what is more or less canon with a five-level hierarchy should disappear in favor of real continuity whatever the medium: Films, series, books, comics, etc. will be hot or not. End of the story.

It is not yet clear what Disney will keep from the existing content around the film saga, but we can assume that anything after the Original Trilogye will go by the wayside since theEpisode vii will reshuffle the cards. For the rest, it is difficult to predict which content, especially among those from theExtended Universe, will be kept in the Disney version of the Holocron. What is certain is that anything that will be published, edited, filmed, drawn in the future in the Star Wars universe will be part of the new continuity.

I made a quick tour of the reactions published on different fan sites of the saga, and if some are already enthusiastic about the idea that Disney is putting a little order in a universe that has become littered with inconsistencies and peripheral content that only hurt the continuity, others fear the entertainment giant is not shy about decanonize many interesting content to make room for rewriting your own version of the Star Wars universe around the six existing films.

I think we shouldn't rely too much on Disney to limit the purge. Making canon and keeping in the Holocron content that could interfere with future projects is a priori not in the spirit of Disney, which has just taken over the comics branch of the saga from the publisher Dark Horse to manage it. internally through Marvel.

The "cleaning"intellectual that is undertaken is also an operation to clean up everything that can produce money for the benefit of someone other than Disney, royalties or not. Story Group put in place could only be a clever way to regain control without too much alienating the fans by blaming the decisions that will be taken on specialists in the saga dubbed by the fans.

What if Disney decided to make a reboot general around the six existing films? We erase everything, and we start from the beginning ...
