76167 Iron Man Armory

Today we take a quick look at the LEGO Marvel set 76167 Iron Man Armory (258 pieces - 29.99 €), a small box that can be considered as a complement to the set 76125 Iron Man Hall of Armor marketed since 2019 and still available on the official online store.

Even if many fans did not wait for LEGO to react and have already invested a long time in several copies of the set 76125 Iron Man Hall of Armor, the four new exhibition modules delivered in this box are built on the same model as those of the other set and are therefore perfectly compatible. It will suffice to clip them on the nine copies already available to obtain an even more consistent armor room.

LEGO could have been content to sell us an opportunity to enlarge what many fans use as a display for the many versions of Tony Stark's armor produced so far but the manufacturer does not forget to give a few winks. eyes on several scenes of the first episode of the MCU like the cheeseburger or the Tile with a sticker representing the cylinder head gasket of the Hot Rod Ford Flathead 1932.

The LEGO Hot Rod is not an ultra-detailed version of the vehicle seen on screen but it at least has the merit of existing. No real grille, tire sidewalls that should be white and an engine summed up in its simplest form, it is indeed relatively basic but sufficient to furnish the lab a little.

As for some of the modules of the other set which features the Hall of Armor, each location is dressed with a transparent piece on which we stick a sticker representing a specific armor model. You will then have to draw from other sets of your collection to associate the corresponding minifig: The classic armor provided in this box and a few others, the new Mark II version delivered here, the War Machine armor available in the set 76153 Helicarrier and the Blazer armor (Mark 22 - Hot Rod) delivered in the set 76166 Avengers Tower Battle.

At least one slot is missing for the Tazer armor (Mark 30 - Blue Steel) also delivered in set 76166, but you can easily assemble a few additional modules and make room for it even without the corresponding sticker.

If the transparent stickers stuck on the windows placed behind the exposed armor work visually quite well, the two stickers placed on the suspended screens are not really visible any more because of the tenons present on the back of the pieces on which they are placed. Too bad.

As one could ask the question of the presence of the two Outriders in the set 76125 Iron Man Hall of Armor, one wonders what the two AIM agents are doing in this new box, even if it is obvious that LEGO will have wanted to include something to have a little fun beyond just putting on the two armor provided or DIY the Hot Rod. This year's wave of LEGO Marvel Avengers sets is also known to be more or less directly associated with the release of the Marvel's Avengers video game and this set is following suit.

Tony Stark's minifigure is both consistent and a little disappointing: it represents the character seen in his lab before his captivity and the body modifications that go with it, but he just reuses Owen Grady's torso available since 2019 in the Jurassic World sets 75937 Triceratops Rampage et 75938 T. rex vs Dino-Mech Battle.

Tony Stark is wearing a black sweater in the scene in which he is working on the Hot Rod, so a more appropriate piece would have been welcome. The character's head, a very common piece in the range, can be used on one of the two armors provided: it is already equipped with the HUD on one side. Tony Stark's phone is the pad-printed piece seen in many boxes since 2014.

The two armors provided are both equipped with transparent neutral heads, essential for placing the helmet on the shoulders of the minifig. The Mark II version is unique and for the moment exclusive to this box. The other armor is present in several sets released this year (76152 Avengers: Wrath of Loki, 76153 Helicarrier, 76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent et 76166 Avengers Tower Battle) and here there is little more than the back equipment covered with stickers that is truly unique.

The pad prints are very successful, with the exception of Tony Stark's neck which is as often in a very light flesh tone which does not match the head. The microfig, delivered in two copies, is also exclusive to this set with a pad printing different from that seen in the 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier marketed in 2015. Looking at it very, very closely, the pad printing is as often on these small elements very coarse but nobody will really stick their nose on these figures and from a distance, it works.

The two AIM agents are identical and are also delivered this year in sets 76143 Avengers Truck Takedown, 76166 Avengers Tower Battle et 40418 Falcon & Black Widow Team-Up.

In short, if you already have the set 76125 Iron Man Hall of Armor, this small extension sold for 30 € will allow you to expand your diorama a little, if it is not already done by accumulating the copies of the set marketed since 2019.

This box is also sufficient in itself by offering an even more basic version of Tony Stark's lab which some young fans will perhaps be satisfied with because it offers something to have a little fun without necessarily trying to line up the armor on a shelf. . The most assiduous collectors often have no choice, the armor in Mark II version being for the moment exclusive to this set.

Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at September 26, 2020 next at 23pm.

Update : The winner was drawn and was notified by email, his nickname is indicated below. Without a response from him to my request for contact details within 5 days, a new winner will be drawn.
