This is the info of the day: The LEGO group is buying the Bricklink marketplace, founded in 2000 by Dan Jezek and acquired in 2013 by the South Korean group NXMH.
In its press release, LEGO stresses its desire to get even closer to its adult fans and to continue the work of modernizing the platform and its various tools undertaken by the previous owner. This acquisition includes the Sohobricks brand of compatible products.
Whatever the motivations put forward by the manufacturer to justify this financial transaction, you will not be angry with me for especially seeing in this acquisition a desire to take control of a secondary market on which large sums are exchanged, sometimes in defiance of the most basic rules in terms of legality and taxation, from which LEGO has so far made no direct profit.
Even if LEGO defends itself for the moment of wanting to interfere in the processes and the rules in place on the platform, the future will tell us what impact this takeover of bricklink by LEGO will actually have on active sellers and customers on the platform.
The press release issued by LEGO can be found at this address, the one posted by the Bricklink platform is here.
