When LEGO does anything, I'm the first to shout it out loud. But when the manufacturer does his job correctly, you also have to know how to recognize it. This is the case with the three Guardians of the Galaxy sets which I take a fresh look at after seeing the (very successful) film today.
The sets inspired by the Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel movies left me hungry for more, as many fans did. I'm more excited about LEGO's work on the Guardians of the Galaxy license.
As for the ships provided in these three boxes, the offer is fair: The Milano (Milan in VF) of the set 76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue is a very correct reproduction of the movie ship. The canopy could have been more rounded, but the overall aesthetic of Star-Lord's ship is respected.
The small Sakaaran ship present in the sets 76019 Starblaster Showdown and 76021 and the mining module of the set 76020 Knowhere Escape Mission are very correct compared to their equivalents seen in the film.
The reproduction of the mining town of Knowhere is obviously too minimalist for what it intends to emulate, but it's enough to accompany what really matters in these three boxes: The minifigs.
On the side of the 9 minifigs delivered in the three existing boxes, we find with pleasure most of the main cast of the film (Star-Lord (two versions), Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Ronan The Accuser and Nebula), the exception of Yondu who would have really deserved a minifigure with his effigy.
If LEGO had taken the derivative adaptation of this film a step further, Nova Prime, Korath and Agent Rhomann Dey would have found their place alongside the main characters.
The minifig of Collector, too exclusive for it to be considered a full member of the Guardians of the Galaxy range should have, more for the wink of an eye than for the character's screen time, be integrated into the accessible products to all customers of the manufacturer.
We can also regret that Rocket Raccoon is in its "prisoner" version in the set 76020 and that the version matching the outfits of Gamora and Star-Lord declined by LEGO is only available in the exclusive set. Rocket's Warbird sold during the last San Diego Comic Con.
In a nutshell, I enjoyed the movie a lot and in turn I'm pretty happy with what LEGO has done with it. I wanted to underline it, in order to not always be in denigration ...
