As with all licenses for which LEGO has not yet released anything official, customs of all kinds are flourishing and invading flickr galleries.
Lord of the Rings is no exception, and hundreds of custom figures can be found, like the one pictured above, which features custom figures designed by Baron von Brick including Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf, Sam, Pippen, Frodo, Merry, Aragorn, and Boromir. While the choice of parts or the heads of these minifigures may be debatable, it must be said that the collection is worthy of inclusion in an official LEGO set.
There are a few other recent releases, such as these Gollum, Sam, and Frodo minifigures from McShipmaster . No doubt the pace of custom LOTR production will accelerate in 2012 with the buzz surrounding the release of the first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, at the end of 2012.
