5004929 The LEGO Batman Movie Cave Pod

Let's take a look at this rather special bag, bearing the reference 5004929, whose packaging is quite distorted by its contents. Initially sold at prohibitive prices, its price on the secondary market has dropped significantly in recent weeks due to massive availability in the USA via the Toys R Us brand. It is currently found at less than € 15 on Bricklink. Still no information on a possible availability in France.

Tip of the day: Wait a little longer, even if you're itching, the price of this polybag containing an exclusive minifig should drop a little further and we are not immune to a surprise arrival of this bag on the LEGO Shop.

Thanks to Julien who generously sent me a copy.

5004929 The LEGO Batman Movie Cave Pod

In the bag, a minifigure but also a strange plastic box in which the character is housed. As some of you already know, the Batman costume, commonly known as Tiger tuxedo, is here inspired by that of singer Richard Cheese who with his group Lounge Against The Machine also makes an appearance in the film in her favorite outfit.

richard cheese lego batman movie

Beyond the minifig supplied, we find in this small box a mini-Batcave with Bat-grappling hook, Batarang and a pad-printed control console which is not new because already seen in two sets of the LEGO Juniors range (10720 Police Helicopter Chase et 10735 Police Truck Chase). It's simple, almost simplistic, but difficult to do better with the available space. I note that the box can be closed with the entire contents in place. Convenient.

5004929 The LEGO Batman Movie Cave Pod

For the minifigure, it's still Batman but it's impeccable. Beautiful pad printing on the chest and on the arms with patterns that occupy a large area on both arms.

Black pants with jacket overflow on the hips of the minifigure, it's clean, although again applying yellow directly on the black background without an undercoat of white helps to slightly tarnish the bottom of the jacket . A white or yellow stripe on the side of the legs would have been welcome for maximum "Tuxedo" effect.

5004929 The LEGO Batman Movie Cave Pod

The box in which all these items are stored is nothing exceptional, and is more of a gadget than anything else. On the one hand a Plate glued round accommodates the dressing of the mini-Batcave, on the other a paper insert serves as the bottom of the minifigure which is plugged into a Plate. Convenient to store, but nothing to cry out for creative genius.

The two notches under the box remind us that it is a LEGO product: they allow you to plug everything into 8 Studs, but without Clutch Power.

5004929 The LEGO Batman Movie Battle Pod

More interesting for collectors: We know that LEGO will decline this concept with at least two other ranges : The reference 5004914 in the range Nexo Knights with a knight, his armor, his sword and his shield equipped with a Nexo Power and the reference 5004920 Friends with a mini doll and his ski equipment. While waiting for the same thing with Ninjago or Marvel sauce ...

70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off

It's the turn of the smallest box of this second wave of sets based on The LEGO Batman Movie to go to the mill. The and 70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off with its 141 parts and two minifigs, however, has much more to offer than it seems at first glance.

The official presentation, a little pompous as usual:

Batman needs help preventing the Scarecrow from spreading fear in this action-packed LEGO BATMAN MOVIE: Scarecrow Face-to-Face set.

The Gyro-Copter features two rotating rotors, an adjustable rudder, and two bomb release functions to release the included fear gas bomb elements.

Batman's jetpack attaches with Batwings and Thrusters.

The grappling gun allows you to recreate an aerial battle.

This set also includes a miniature powerhouse model with an explosion function for added danger, plus two minifigures.

70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off

Let's get to the point, the main interest of this set is the presence of Scarecrow in a "real" version. The minifig seen in the set 70910 Scarecrow's Special Delivery in pizza delivery outfit had left some fans hungry.

For the rest, Batman is here equipped with a jetpack which earned him to be delivered without the yellow belt usually provided in sets based on the film. The belt is here pad printed directly on the chest, as is the case in the "classic" DC Comics sets.

Small detail to note, it is necessary to remove the flames that come out of the two boosters to put the minifigure. Or put it in balance on a support.

70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off

Scarecrow's flying machine is sketchy but nice. He is like the character: rustic and dilapidated. Some stickers improve the overall appearance of the whole with the emblem of the character on the rear wing and some visual details on each side of the engine.

Personalized stud shooters integrated sides allow ejecting of bottles of Fear Gas. It's fun, it works pretty well.

70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off

LEGO has not forgotten to decline again its concept of "modular factory" in this set with a new section which takes up the theme of the elements seen in the sets 70900 The Joker Balloon Escape70901 Mr. Freeze Ice Attack et 70910 Scarecrow's Special Delivery from the previous wave.

This new section cannot be attached to the others, they will remain independent. Pressing the yellow Tile will eject a canister of Fear Gas. Not enough to cry genius, but at this price, we did not expect much better.

70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off

The minifig star of this little box is obviously Scarecrow, aka the Scarecrow in French, which is provided here in its "real" usual outfit. Pad printing is correct, despite some color variations depending on the color of the base surface and a slight difference between the pieces.

The mold of the hat / hair combo is identical to the one seen in the set 76054 Scarecrow Harvest of Fear, released in 2016. For the rest, this new version is in my opinion much more attractive.

70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off

It's up to you to choose between this version and that of the sets 76054 Scarecrow Harvest of Fear (2016) 10937 Arkham Asylum Breakout (2013) and the more basic one seen in the sets 7785 Arkham Asylum (2006) et 7786 The Batcopter: The Chase for Scarecrow (2007)

70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off

This little box therefore deserves all your attention if you are a collector of minifigs and you are interested in this new version of Scarecrow. The flying machine delivered is rather nice and sticks well to the character's universe. 14.99 € in the LEGO Shop.

Note: We do as usual, you have until June 10, 2017 at 23:59 p.m. to manifest yourself.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

We are continuing this series of tests of The LEGO Batman Movie novelties with the reference 70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack. In this box of 366 pieces, a bigfig (Bane), two minifigs (Batman and Mutant Leader), two vehicles and a toxic waste tank.

The official pitch of the set is promising:

Bane and the leader of the mutant gang are attacking the city using their poison truck!

Batman is set to step up in this exciting LEGO BATMAN THE MOVIE: Bane's Toxic Truck Attack set, featuring Bane's Toxic Truck, Whirly-Bat Helicopter, and a miniature toxic waste model with an explosion function.

This six-wheeled truck features a four-wheel rear suspension, six-stud rapid shooter, and a detachable toxic tank element.

Includes two minifigures, a large minifigure, assorted game-inspired weapons, and accessories including Batman's Batarang, Mutant Gang Leader Torch, and Bane's Venom Backpack.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

We start with the Whirly-Bat and it's up to everyone to assess the relevance of the thing. Some will see it as a truly disappointing machine, provided by LEGO to furnish, and others will invoke the intentional contrast between Bane's over-armed and aggressive vehicle and the fragile and a little ridiculous side of this mini-helicopter with wheels. I first agreed with the first explanation before changing my mind and preferring the second.

The machine is a little ridiculous but so offbeat that it becomes almost sympathetic. It is in the spirit of the film and this is the essential.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

Opposite, Bane and Mutant Leader tumble into an imposing six-wheeled all-terrain vehicle. The machine is faithful to the one seen in the film (see capture above), with one detail: No hubcaps on the front wheels for the model of set 70914. The stickers obviously help to improve the final rendering of the vehicle and to give it its "armored" appearance.

Note the presence of Osito, the teddy bear who kept company with Bane in the prison of Peña Duro, via two stickers to be placed on the body of the vehicle.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

The cockpit can only accommodate a classic minifigure, in this case Mutant Leader. Bane has to be content to stay in the back and manipulate his rotating cannon equipped with a sight. A removable Venom canister is attached to the rear of the all-terrain. The whole is compact, solid and easy to handle.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

The official description speaks of a "four-wheel rear suspension ". Let's not get carried away, there is no suspension. Both wheels are mounted on a bar Technic fixed to the frame by its center which allows this tilting effect. Everything else, including Round Plates 1x1 stacked visible in the photo below, it is decoration.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

For playability, LEGO has added to this set an accessory that allows you to eject a few canisters of toxic waste. We put the carboy in the tank, we press the Tile yellow and it jumps. Three canisters are provided. Simple but effective.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

Bane is finally available in a format that pays homage to the character. The bigfig is beautiful and the venom injection system is nicely done.

It was about time that LEGO offered us a large-format version of the character after the five classic minifigs already marketed through the range System (7787 The Bat-Tank: The Riddler and Bane's Hideout, 76001 The Bat vs. Bane: Tumbler Chase, 6860 The Batcave), in the Mighty Micros set 76062 Robin vs. bane or via the expansion pack LEGO Dimensions 71240.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

The Mutant Leader minifig is more basic, but the leader of the Mutant Gang doesn't call out for endless amounts of detail. He evolves shirtless and the LEGO version is faithful to the character created by Frank Miller seen in comics or animated series. The minifig is also delivered with a torch like the one held by Mutant Leader in The Dark Knight Returns.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

This set is a good surprise, it allows both to obtain a new version of Bane and a new character who will join the collection of fans of the DC Comics universe. The vehicles, for their part, bring significant playability to the whole.

This set is displayed at the public price of 49.99 € on the LEGO Shop. It's a bit expensive, but sooner or later this box will end up being offered with a substantial reduction by one brand or another.

70914 Bane Toxic Truck Attack

LEGO Creator Expert 10257 Carousel

A set from the LEGO Creator Expert range is often the promise of an elaborate construction filled with interesting techniques. The and 10257 Carousel with its 2670 pieces keeps this promise, with a few caveats that I develop below.

This is a merry-go-round. Round. There is therefore no escaping the repetitive, somewhat tiresome sub-assemblies, especially during the assembly of the skirt which covers the rotation mechanism of the merry-go-round or during the phase of finishing the border of the marquee. The series of 12 or 24 sections to be pre-assembled follow one another. It's laborious, but by repeating the same techniques, you almost end up memorizing them.

LEGO Creator Expert 10257 Carousel

No base plate in this set, so the central part remains partially hollowed out. This is no big deal and the whole remains transportable without breaking everything. So far, everything is going well, we are discovering the solution used by the designer to ensure perfect mobility on the merry-go-round. It's interesting.

With the assembly of the skirt which covers the mechanism begin the repetitive phases. And there, it is an abyssal boredom. The whole should be handled with care, the central part is only connected to the base of the skirt via four 4x4 flat red.

LEGO Creator Expert 10257 Carousel

The merry-go-round takes shape with the installation of this element. The mechanism is hidden, it turns, everything is fine. The central staircase is very successful, its assembly brings a little fun, it's always taken.

LEGO Creator Expert 10257 Carousel

The crank that allows the merry-go-round to turn does its job: the merry-go-round turns, the animals move up and down according to the rotation. It's fluid, but what is slow ... I had the impression of having to reel really very actively to hope to obtain an acceptable speed of rotation. The most gifted MOCeurs will probably find a solution to speed up the rotation of the merry-go-round a little.

LEGO Creator Expert 10257 Carousel

By assembling the different animals (very successful) on which visitors can take a ride, I see that apart from the swan, none of them has a seat to fix the minifigs. The latter must therefore hold on to the bars that keep the animals on the floor of the arena. Not very realistic, but we will do with ...

LEGO Creator Expert 10257 Carousel

By the way, the absence of an engine kit in a box from the Expert range is definitely pettiness, especially since the necessary budget is reasonable: le M Power Functions motor 8883 is sold 8.90 € and 88000 AAA battery box cost 13.99 €.

A merry-go-round that does not turn by itself is of no real interest and having to go back to the cash register to automate the rotation is indecent. This merry-go-round is not a toy for young children.

LEGO didn't even bother to properly conceal the beam and the Pins. Technic on which the motor is attached Power Functions optional. Too bad for the finish.

All the stickers provided are gold and shiny, it has 36 in all. It's too much. They are used to dress the central trunk of the merry-go-round and the decoration of the marquee.

I can understand the desire to offer a mirror effect on the central axis to give a little depth to the whole as is the case on "real" rides, but the borders of the marquee would have deserved better than these few stickers. . The neutral stickers that are used to dress the 12 plates white colors around the roof of the arena do not add anything and the risk of installing them badly can only harm the final rendering.

LEGO Creator Expert 10257 Carousel

The roof of the merry-go-round is covered with large panels of flexible and fine fabric. Like I said about the sails of the Pirates of the Caribbean set 71042 The Silent Mary, I would have preferred to get plastic inserts that are easier to maintain than those pieces of fabric that will quickly collect dust. Be careful to handle them with care to avoid creasing or tearing them.

As far as I'm concerned, I got bored more than anything during the assembly phase. Too many repetitive sequences, and the impression of working in the assembly line. Only the animals bring a little fun to this general monotony. It's the set that wants that, I don't blame anyone. It is also a nice set, I agree.

Adding to this the impression of having in my hands a toy from another age with its crank, I keep my 200 € for something else.

70915 Two-Face Double Demolition

The buzz around The LEGO Batman Movie has already subsided for several weeks and the Blu-ray / DVD release on June 14 will probably not be enough to revive the machine. It is in this context that LEGO plans to market five new boxes that will join the thirteen sets already on the market, not to mention the collectible minifigs, BrickHeadz and the slew of derivative products, polybags, etc.

Today we are therefore interested in one of these five sets planned for the second semester: the reference 70915 Two-Face Double Demolition, its 564 parts, its excavator, its Bat-thing and its 4 minifigs.

We do not change a winning team: A few vehicles, good guys, bad guys, stickers, missile launchers and let's go:

Double-Face's powerful excavator destroys everything in its path!

Batman and his Batcycle must stop them in this exciting LEGO BATMAN THE MOVIE: Double-Face Escape set.

Double-Face's Backhoe has a minifigure cabin, operational backhoe arm and shovel, and an articulated design for smooth steering.

It looks like a normal backhoe on one side, but has a "bad side" including spikes on the huge wheels and a fast six-stud shooter.

The Batmoto features an opening minifigure cabin, dual rotating stud shooters, and rotating missile launcher.

This set includes four minifigures that come equipped with assorted weapons and accessories to inspire action-packed role-play scenarios.

70915 Two-Face Double Demolition

Batman comes with his aka Batcycle The bat hawk. Nothing exciting, the minifig barely fits in the cockpit but it rolls, it shoots missiles, the canopy opens, the side bat wings are movable and it's playable.

Two-Face's vehicle is more interesting: The excavator is also "Double-sided adhesive". Half of the machine is in the colors of the Falcone's Legit Construction Company, the company of Carmine Falcone, the godfather of Gotham City's crime. We find the classic "construction" aspect and the reproduction of the machine is rather successful.

70915 Two-Face Double Demolition

The other part displays a less "Public Works" look to match the character's duality. This results in an interesting asymmetric assembly with different colors and sets of parts depending on the side of the machine. Placed in profile, the excavator creates an illusion. The dark side is rusty, gaunt, decked out with sharp blades worthy of a good old Carmaggedon on wheels. Without overdoing it and with a few well-chosen details, LEGO offers here a convincing machine that fits perfectly to the image of its driver of the day.

70915 Two-Face Double Demolition

No direct steering on this backhoe loader but the front part, the arm and the bucket are articulated, which offers a minimum of playability. The bucket alone is dressed in five stickers to give it that rusty appearance on one side, shiny on the other.

70915 Two-Face Double Demolition

On the minifig side, we find the eternal Batman with his yellow belt, Harvey Dent aka Two-Face, and two officers of the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) with their tactical jackets and accessories.

70915 Two-Face Double Demolition

70915 Two-Face Double Demolition

The torsos of each of these police officers are identical to those available in the set 70912 Arkham Asylum. No distinction between the torso of the male officer and that of the female officer. The tactical vest is identical to that of Barbara Gordon seen in the set 70908 The Scuttler. No double face for the male officer, due to the use of a cap which would reveal the other side.

70915 Two-Face Double Demolition

Two-Face, the star of the set that will motivate collectors, is here based on the version played by Billy Dee Williams in Tim Burton's Batman in 1989 with his three-piece suit and blue scarf. The actor also lends his voice to the character of The LEGO Batman Movie in the original version. The minifigure is beautiful with a very satisfactory level of detail. special mention for the visible underpants ...

In summary, this set is in my opinion a nice box which leaves a good place for the main vehicle but which is nevertheless not essential. If you have to choose, among all those marketed around the film, the boxes that you will offer to the youngest, there is better in the next wave.

Two-Face isn't the kid's favorite villain and if you want a backhoe loader, there's less in the City range. The Bat-thing obviously does not deserve on its own that you invest around fifty euros in this set (49.99 € in the LEGO Shop).

Note: We are doing as usual, you have until May 23, 2017 at 23:59 p.m. to come forward.
