To be completely honest with you, I don't spend my life on the LEGO Shop and I would have a hard time telling you when the exact increase in the retail price of the set took place. 9493 X-Wing Starfighter which passes without warning from 59.99 € (its starting public price when it was launched in 2012 was 74.99 €) to 69.99 €.
This is not the only set to undergo a sudden and discreet increase at LEGO, the sets 1088 Death Star, 10225 R2-D2 or even 10937 Arkham Asylum Breakout had also seen their price increase significantly at the beginning of the year (See this article).
You will tell me that today there are many other ways than the LEGO Shop to get our favorite sets at good prices and you will be right.
Bad timing yet again, as LEGO invades New York with its giant X-Wing and secures maximum visibility on all social media in the universe by loudly proclaiming that Times Square X-Wing is the replica exact scale 1:42 of that of set 9493.
All those who have finally given in to the temptation to afford the miniature version of this ship will have to pay an additional € 10. It's too bad. Unless...
(Thanks to Louis for his email alert)
Come on, I'll waste you another 51 seconds of your time with the time lapse (The time-lapse video if you prefer) of the assembly of the giant X-Wing which at least allows us to get a closer look at the metal frame used to solidify the whole.
And it's a hell of a frame! With LEGO around.
The giant X-Wing composed of more than 5 million parts and a total wingspan of more than 13 meters presented for the first time in New York in May 2013 and who has since toured the various LEGO parks on the planet, arrived at LEGOLAND park in Günzburg, Germany.
For the occasion, comedian Garrick Hagon who played the very mustached Biggs Darklighter (aka Red Three) in L'Episode IV A New Hope and whose career as a rebel pilot unfortunately ended during the Battle of Yavin was present.
The opportunity for a photo that would almost in itself justify the construction of this huge brick X-Wing ...
We note that Biggs Darklighter was entitled to his minifigure in the 7140 X-Wing Fighter set released in 1999, and reissued in 2002 under the reference 7142.
The giant X-Wing operation posed in the middle of Times Square is a success. In any case on the web. The buzz was immediate and violent, Twitter exploded with superlatives, blogs or sites invited to discover the ship before the official launch did the job: Mission accomplished.
Well, it's big, there are a lot of parts, it weighs several tons, etc, etc ...
More yoda news posted an interview with one of the designers of this extraordinary X-Wing, Eric Varszegi, best known to fans for his giant Venator, and who presents the ship in a more "human" way and above all more interesting than the press release LEGO press release.
If you took English lessons in your younger years, take advantage of these few minutes in the company of this high-end LEGO Master Builder.
For the others go on Gizmodo, there are many detailed photos of this X-Wing.
If you have been following the installation of the LEGO space in the heart of Times Square (NYC) since this morning, you will understand that the model in question is in fact an X-Wing (What is this ship doing in middle of the promo of The Yoda Chronicles ...?) of more than 5.000.000 pieces which is currently packed in this giant box replica or more than 20 tons of LEGO.
Above is the photo of the ship's "packaging" posted by LEGO on Twitter.
