New for 2019: LEGO Originals 853967 Wooden Minifigure

LEGO today presents a new derivative product to the glory of the brand: the reference LEGO Originals 853967 Wooden Minifigure. In the box, a minifig in oak wood about twenty centimeters high with movable plastic hands, a bag of 29 pieces that allows you to assemble different accessories for the character and a small 28-page booklet that traces the history of the minifigure since its first appearance in 1978.

You will have to pay 119.99 € / 159.00 CHF from November 3 on the LEGO Shop and in some LEGO Stores to afford this large decorative minifig, designed by the company Room copenhagen already at the origin of many derived products under official license. Advance sale for members of the VIP program from November 3 to 7, global availability from November 8, 2019. There will be something for everyone.

You have probably noticed it, the box is stamped with the logo "Originals"also present on some posters with vintage accents available via the rewards center of the VIP program. We do not yet know if LEGO intends to exploit this concept beyond this creation and the few existing posters, but I think that we will quickly be entitled to a nice big wooden brick or a duck on wheels.

If you don't really know what to give this Christmas to a LEGO fan who has "everything already", this is a great idea as long as you want to spend more than 100 €. if not, a Battle Pack any or a key ring will do.

LEGO specifies that this product benefits from FSC certification, which means that the wood used comes from forests with "responsible" management. The manufacturer also adds that if the minifig is not articulated at the level of the arms and legs, the choice of plastic for the hands, on the other hand, makes it possible to guarantee the mobility of the latter over time without risk of degradation of the character's wrists and full compatibility with the elements of the LEGO ecosystem. There are also no holes under the feet like on real plastic minifigures to ensure the stability of the figure.

For the record and to put this new product in a historical context, LEGO and wood, this is not an association that comes out of nowhere. Ole Kirk Kristiansen, the founder of the brand, was a carpenter and the first toys he made in 1932 were made of wood. It wasn't until the end of World War II that plastic was introduced into LEGO toys, and some products like the 1130 Fire Truck set released in 1959 combined the two materials.
