76166 Avengers Tower Battle

We are completing the test cycle of the novelties of the LEGO Marvel range marketed in 2020 with the set 76166 Avengers Tower Battle, a box of 685 pieces sold for 94.99 € which allows us to assemble the tower of the Avengers and to obtain in the process a big handful of minifigs.

The tower delivered here is obviously more ambitious than that of the set 4+ 76152 Avengers: Wrath of Loki (223 pieces - 69.99 €) which offers us a more minimalist interpretation of the places intended for very young fans. Those who collect sets from the LEGO Marvel range also have a first version of the tower on their shelves or in their boxes: that of the set 76038 Attack on Avengers Tower (515 pieces - 75.99 €) marketed in 2015. The 2020 version is also more ambitious here with an additional stage.

No big surprise during the assembly phase of the Avengers headquarters, it's like the police stations of the LEGO CITY range: we stack the floors which are all more or less based on the same principle with their large bay windows and the few pieces of furniture that take place there depending on the use of the premises. No stairs or elevator that allow to navigate between the different floors, but young fans who want to have fun with this construction will have the possibility of opening it to obtain a rather imposing playset with easily accessible internal spaces.

The gameplay is not based only on the story telling in this box and the designer has planned some mobile elements that will enhance the clashes between the different protagonists.

76166 Avengers Tower Battle

The ground floor canopy opens to a garage that allows Black Widow to put her gear away or take it out, the first floor canopy opens to let the Blazer and Tazer armor come out of the building and take part in combat . The third floor cell has two ejectable windows via a lever to play an escape and the balcony of the fourth seesaw by pulling on the integrated mechanism to simulate the destruction of part of the tower.

As a bonus, it is even possible to "explode" theARC Reactor which is on the ground floor by pushing on the protrusion visible at the foot of the tower in order to eject the module from its support. All of these playful possibilities are interesting in my opinion, it is not so often that designers make the effort to offer something other than doors that open or features too anecdotal to deserve to be really considered. as such.

The Avengers logo in Dark Azure plated on the structure is rather well done and gives a little allure to the whole by making us almost forget that this construction with the summary finish sold at the full price is not a product of the CITY range.

The different rooms of the building are more or less furnished and we note on the first floor the presence of the Infinity Gauntlet, on which we find the Space stone, placed just behind the weapons rack. The Power Stone is installed in the lab on the second floor which actually reproduces the scene, seen in the film. guardians of the galaxy, which takes place at Le Collectionneur.

Also on the second floor, there is a cell from which Red Skull can escape and the third floor rest room faces a screen whose display is interchangeable. The Avengers can either watch the news or play a video game that features the clash between Captain America and Red Skull, the gamepad is provided.

The building makes extensive use of transparent pieces and care will have to be taken for the scratches that do not fail to appear when these pieces walk around in the bags. If any of these items are really too scratched for your liking, please do not hesitate to contact customer service for a replacement.

There are few stickers in this box with in particular a few control screens on a transparent background, a double display for the third floor television and a skin for the flying motorcycle of Black Widow.

76166 lego marvel avengers tower battle 16

The only contraption in the set is Black Widow's flying motorcycle. Why not. The machine is connected with the motorcycles usually used by the character in other boxes and its transformation into a flying machine offers a good dose of playability around the building without Black Widow being confined to making rear wheels on the forecourt while the others clash on the floors.

LEGO provides in this box the two usual small bags of decorative elements and accessories in Flat Silver which are not always used in full or wisely depending on the sets. Here, the designer made the effort to intelligently use a maximum of these parts on weapons, for projectiles and on the motorcycle.

The minifig endowment is very correct with Iron Man, Black Widow, Blazer (Mark 22 - Hot Rod) and Tazer (Mark 30 - Blue Steel) armor, Red Skull and the essential AIM agents who make the link with the Marvel's Avengers video game from which the series of sets released this year is loosely based.

The Blazer and Tazer armor both come with transparent neutral heads, the pad prints are crisp and Tazer's epaulettes, available in black and red in other sets, are here delivered for the first time in dark Blue. Armor collectors therefore have two new versions to add to their Hall of Armour and a location is even already provided for Blazer in the set 76167 Iron Man Armory.

Red Skull had not been seen at LEGO since its first appearance in the set 76017 Captain America vs. Hydra released in 2014, if we forget the overly cartoon version of the Mighty Micros set 76065 Captain America vs. Red Skull released in 2016. The torso and head of this new version are new, but I prefer the 2014 version, whose torso pad printing is more basic but in my opinion more effectively embodies the character's emblematic outfit.

76166 Avengers Tower Battle

Black Widow's minifigure is the one delivered this year in sets 40418 Falcon & Black Widow Team-Up et 76153 Helicarrier. Exit sticks, classic or based on Harry Potter wands, Natasha Romanoff is here equipped with two semi-automatic pistols.

The Iron Man minifigure is not new, it is the one available this year in the sets 76140 Iron Man Mech, 76152 Avengers: Wrath of Loki76153 Helicarrier et 76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent.

It should be noted that LEGO provides here hair for Tony Stark, an accessory that allows you to enjoy the character without his helmet. This was not the case in the set 76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent, it is therefore an initiative to welcome.

The two AIM agents are identical and are also delivered this year in sets 76143 Avengers Truck Takedown, 76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent76167 Iron Man Armory et 40418 Falcon & Black Widow Team-Up.

76166 Avengers Tower Battle

To conclude, I think that this playset does not deserve, it offers a lot of fun with an imposing construction that opens onto interior spaces with a somewhat basic layout but spacious enough to slip your fingers.

The finish of the building itself is not exceptional but the "glass tower" effect is there with a profile relatively faithful to the version seen on the screen or in the comics. Armor collectors will have to make up their mind, it's $ 94.99 for two new minifigs or an aftermarket retail purchase.

We currently find this box for less than 67 € at Amazon in Germany and at this price point, this product really seems like a nice set to give to a young avengers fan who needs a gathering point for his superhero troop.

Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at 17th October, 2020 next at 23pm.

LEGO Marvel 77905 Taskmaster's Ambush

There was also an exclusive set of the LEGO Marvel universe in the boxes for San Diego Comic Con 2020 with the reference 77905 Taskmaster's Ambush (230 pieces), a box inspired by the film Black Widow whose theatrical release was postponed until May 2021 a few days ago.

We wondered why LEGO didn't offer a Red Guardian minifigure in the set 76162 Black Widow's Helicopter Chase (271 pieces - 29.99 €), we have the answer.

As for the LEGO Star Wars set 77904 Nebulon-B Frigate, we do not yet know how this little box will be distributed, but it is a safe bet that it will only be sold across the Atlantic and directly by LEGO in the weeks or months to come.

Various visuals are available through the application dedicated to assembly instructions on iOS or Android:

76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent

Time to take a quick look at the LEGO Marvel Avengers set 76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent (456 pieces - 39.99 €), a box which, as its name suggests, allows us to assemble a new interpretation of Iron Man's super armor. This is not the first version of the Hulkbuster in LEGO sauce, we will remember the sets 76104 The Hulkbuster Smash-Up et 76105 The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition marketed in 2018.

The construction offered in this new box loosely inspired by the Marvel's Avengers video game looked promising when the first official visuals were unveiled and it could be assumed that the presence of numerous points of articulation would guarantee an almost unheard-of mobility to this 2020 version of the armor. .

This is partly the case, but it comes at the cost of a few aesthetic shortcuts which in my opinion do not allow this Hulkbuster to be able to claim to be more than a luxury mech, a bit in the spirit of the one in the set 76140 Iron Man Mech marketed since the beginning of the year.

76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent

Joints and others Ball Seals arms are far too visible from certain angles and somewhat erase the massive side of the machine. The gray color of the different elements does not help. The torso, the legs and the feet save a little the furniture with a sufficient level of detail but it is as often at the cost of the absence of articulation at the knees.

The armor is relatively fragile and its handling can quickly become annoying with a few simply clipped elements that come off a little too easily, such as the two growths placed behind the cockpit or the fingers that barely support being oriented outward to reveal the integrated thruster. The small module to be placed on the shoulder only holds on its side via a tenon and also tends to come loose at the slightest movement.

One can also wonder what comes to do this small device placed on the shoulder of the armor: what interest to expose oneself to this point when the purpose of this armor is precisely to protect the one who uses it. The color of this firing station equipped with two Spring-Shooters is not even fitting with the rest of the armor and it is hardly conceivable to consider it as a speeder that could move independently.

76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent

We can also try to find every possible and imaginable excuse to defend the design of this Hulkbuster, but this flat dome that serves as the head of the mech is downright ridiculous. LEGO should have known this when choosing the official visuals which are online on the product sheet and the armor is always presented with the head tilted slightly forward which somewhat erases the defect.

The idea of trying to "sink" the head between the shoulders of the armor to stick to the aesthetics seen in different comics is not bad, but it is still necessary that the machine has real shoulders which is not the case here. The cupola is only clipped to the rest of the armor via two skeleton arms which will also tend to detach quickly. There is no point in straining the legs to try to unfold them and it is still the skeletal arms that prevent any movement.

We will still welcome the attention to detail at the rear of the legs with the presence of thrusters which will nevertheless have a little difficulty in making people forget that the knees of the armor are fixed. We do not escape the traditional sheet of stickers but the flat dome that serves as the head of the armor and the ARC reactor are pad printed.

In short, this new version of the Hulkbuster does not put the previous two back on the ropes, far from it, and in my opinion it is only a choice out of spite for a young fan or a collector who refuses to fatten up market sellers. secondary.

76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent

76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent

The Iron Man minifigure is not new, it is the one available this year in the sets 76140 Iron Man Mech, 76152 Avengers: Wrath of Loki76153 Helicarrier et 76166 Avengers Tower Battle.

The Rescue armor, created by Tony Stark to protect Pepper Pots, is here a priori inspired by one of the first versions of the outfit as it appears in various comics and it displays a less girly side than that present in the saga cinematographic. Not enough to get up at night, but this very successful pad printing minifig is exclusive to this set and it will doubtless remain so for a long time.

Rescue / Pepper Pots head is the one already used for the same character in the set 76144 Hulk Helicopter Rescue but it is also that of Hermione Granger (Harry Potter), Yelena Belova (Black Widow) or even Carina Smyth (Pirates of the Caribbean).

We can also wonder why LEGO takes the trouble to provide us with heads with double facial expression for minifigs whose helmets do not open without also delivering hair that allows us to enjoy these faces a little more.

The two AIM agents are identical and are also delivered this year in sets 76143 Avengers Truck Takedown76166 Avengers Tower Battle, 76167 Iron Man Armory et 40418 Falcon & Black Widow Team-Up. Note the effort of the designer to try to offer an almost credible opposition to the Hulkbuster with one of the two villains who is equipped with a system of thrusters capable of launching projectiles. The minifigure has a little trouble standing with this gear on its back, but the playability is there.

76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster Versus AIM Agent

The Hulkbuster is undoubtedly destined to become a chestnut tree in the Marvel range but this version is struggling to convince with limited mobility, a little annoying fragility and a questionable aesthetic bias. The endowment in minifigs is nothing exceptional with a single new figurine but the balance of power is relatively balanced thanks to the villain equipped with a jetpack.

This box probably does not deserve the 40 € requested by LEGO, but it is already offered at a much lower price by Amazon: 35.95 € with the bonus of a coupon of 2.21 € to be deducted from the final price. It is always a bit expensive for a single really new minifigure but the youngest will undoubtedly find something to have a little fun there.

Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at 14th October, 2020 next at 23pm.

LEGO Art 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man

Today we are quickly talking about the LEGO Art concept that LEGO sells to us as "... a building experience that is both relaxing and rewarding ..."by being interested in the set 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man (3167 pieces - 119.99 €).

I'm not going to give you the full pitch of these products which, taken individually, offer three (31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man et 31200 Star Wars The Sith) or four (31197 Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe et 31198 The Beatles) construction possibilities depending on the model and which can even end in a mega-fresco if you buy three copies of the Marvel and Star Wars versions. What interests me here is the concept itself which uses the LEGO brick in the service of an exercise that does not seem to me at first sight to be breathtakingly creative.

Everything is pre-mixed to try to ensure that whoever launches it does not get tired too quickly: Each painting is divided into nine sub-sections to be assembled separately before putting them together to form the final fresco and the pieces are already sorted by color . The instruction booklet completes to facilitate the task of customers in search of relaxation by guiding them thanks to a digital identification of each color concerned. Hard to be simpler, the next step was to deliver the product already assembled.

It is therefore necessary to spend a few hours aligning the pieces, grouping the 9 plates together via pins and constructing the frame which surrounds and stiffens the mosaic. We fix the two hooks that allow the thing to be pressed to the wall and it's settled. If you do not intend to mount Iron Man to the wall, you will have to manage: LEGO does not provide a stand or easel to build, for example to put the painting on a piece of furniture.

The front of the painting remains in "visible tenons", no glass or plexiglass insert to isolate the model from the dust which will not fail to slip between the rooms over time. I'm not worried, sooner or later a third-party manufacturer will provide a complete framing solution for these products.

I've seen a lot of people rave about the rather successful packaging of these products, but I think it's especially important to point out that the finished painting does not fit in the box. It's a shame, exit the possibility of carefully storing the assembled product in this large flat box which nevertheless takes up roughly the format.

LEGO Art 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man

LEGO indicates that it is also necessary to install nine white pieces in the center of the back of each of the modules that make up the table, I deliberately offset them so as not to force on the center of the outgrowth provided for that which seemed to me to offer more resistance than usual. I later understood why I was having trouble inserting them.

If you take a good look at the photos below, you will indeed see that some of the nine modules have a defect with a slightly depressed central part. This design flaw spills over to the back of each frame with tenons that appear to be poorly spaced. Six of the nine copies provided in the set I received are concerned and we find the ripple effect on the final mosaic when looking at it in profile. Given the high-end positioning of the product, I expected not to have to notice any major defect on the parts supplied and I find myself having to contact customer service about this ... In my case, this is not a big deal, but the average executive in a hurry to relax will certainly have better things to do.

Impossible to marvel here on a particular technique or on a precise step, it is really only at the end of the assembly and seen from (very) far that the complete model is revealed and that we forget that it's just crass pixel art in LEGO style. Some will conclude that the end justifies the means and that the assembly process is only secondary, the goal boiling down to getting a mosaic to display proudly in your living room or office. They are probably right.

As I said above, these tables are 3-in-1 products. It is indeed possible to choose from the start one of the three artworks offered by LEGO, and you can even dismantle everything later to change the visual, the inventory provided in each box allows it.

To have completely disassembled the copy provided by LEGO, it is a laborious step even with the help of the new steroid separator supplied which allows to remove four parts at a time instead of two. And if you want to embark on the assembly of a second visual, you will need at least a preliminary sorting several thousand parts whose colors are very similar.

LEGO Art 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man

LEGO Art 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man

LEGO has tried to wrap it all up in a somewhat lounge by offering users to listen to a dedicated audio track during the assembly phase. The idea of accompanying the user without distracting them too much visually is interesting in theory, but I held on for five minutes before letting go and realizing that I had to stay focused on the edit without trying to understand what the different things were about. stakeholders.

The soundtrack planned for this set is indeed a simple podcast of an hour and a half available only in English and at very average recording quality with people chatting and laughing, you can listen to it. an extract at this address to get an idea of the content. LEGO will therefore not have deemed it useful to offer us the entire experience in French when it was enough to invite three or four French-speaking types to discuss Iron Man to at least provide localized content. It's petty, but I think you don't miss much.

Everyone will have an opinion on the relevance of the concept, and what I retain personally after three hours of assembly divided into four sessions, is that we are a little bored. You also have to be careful not to confuse a few shades between them, but once you have visually associated the color present in the pages of the booklet with the corresponding shade, the assembly line work goes without a hitch. If you want to simplify your task a little more and get rid of the assembly phase even more quickly, you can number the cups containing each shade once and for all by respecting the table provided by LEGO.

LEGO Art 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man

Bravo to those who will resolve to spend three times € 120 to afford the mega-fresco that can be assembled with the content of the Marvel and Star Wars versions by having previously downloaded the essential instructions in PDF format.

You read that correctly, LEGO does not offer a paper version of these instructions, even though it was only about thirty extra pages to add to the basic booklet ... small savings. I also have a thought for the most demanding collectors who will want to be able to simultaneously assemble the three models and the mega-fresco for the Marvel and Star Wars versions, with a final bill which climbs to almost 720 €. Those who will be satisfied with the four Beatles or the four variations of Andy Warhol's famous painting will get away with just under € 480.

In short, even if the end result is aesthetically acceptable seen from quite a distance, I think that I am definitely not in the target targeted by LEGO with this type of product. lifestyle to assemble yourself. I was quite bored and even a little annoyed and the result obtained does not seem to me of sufficient originality for me to spend 120 € in at least one of the models offered. A few glossy posters will do the trick for much less.

The theoretical versatility of each of the sets also seems to me to be very overrated as soon as we add the laborious but inevitable phase of dismantling and sorting and the technical faults encountered on the test copy convinced me to skip the line. So it will be without me.

You now have my opinion on this product and if you have already fallen for one or more copies of these mosaics, do not hesitate to share yours in the comments. The concept is different enough from what LEGO fans usually buy that opinions are very mixed.

LEGO, for its part, seems to have imagined that the concept will quickly find its audience and other products of the same type will be marketed with at least two references planned for 2021: the set 31201 Hogwarts Crest which should make it possible to assemble the coats of arms of the four Hogwarts schools and the reference 31202 Mickey & Minnie Mouse.

LEGO Art 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man

Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is as usual in play. Deadline fixed at 10th October, 2020 next at 23pm. Defective frames will be replaced.
I say this for all intents and purposes even though it seems to me that it makes sense, disagreeing with me doesn't reduce your chances of winning.

Update : The winner was drawn and was notified by email, his nickname is indicated below. Without a response from him to my request for contact details within 5 days, a new winner will be drawn.
