LEGO | LEVI'S

LEGO is everywhere right now, even where we don't necessarily expect the brand: After the partnership with IKEA unveiled several weeks ago, the manufacturer today announces a collaboration with LEVI'S which should logically relate to a collection of clothing.

LEGO uses the hashtag #DotYourWorld on social networks to tease this new partnership and the short video sequence below shows the pieces widely used in the various products of the LEGO DOTS range. It's up to you to deduce what you want ...

The visual of a 110-piece LEGO DOTS bag (ref. LEGO 40438) stamped with the LEVI'S logo is currently circulating on social networks, it is probably not the only product that will result from this collaboration.

Update : Here are some of the planned products. The denim jacket will be sold for 120 €, the cap and the beanie will be charged 30 € (the beanie is already on sale at LEVI'S ) and the banana will be marketed for nearly 40 € ... Launch of the collection of twenty items on September 10.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

Time to take a quick look at the LEGO Star Wars set 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City, which becomes with us Betrayal at Cloud City, with its 2812 pieces, its 18 figurines and its public price set at 349.99 €. An entire program.

Fans of the Star Wars universe who also love LEGOs were impatiently waiting for the manufacturer to offer us a new interpretation of the mining complex that floats in the atmosphere of the planet Bespin and which is the scene of many scenes that have become cult for a whole generation.

Let's be honest, the set 10123 Cloud City marketed in 2003 did not leave an unforgettable memory to the fans who for the most part today seek only to obtain the exclusive minifig of Boba Fett delivered in this playset without great interest, even for the time.

So it was about time that LEGO gave us a slightly more exciting take on Cloud City. Mission accomplished or not, everyone will have their opinion on the subject. As far as I'm concerned, I'm disappointed, but I like it. It is complicated.

I had undoubtedly a little too idealized what could be a Cloud City set in 2018 sauce, the fault among other things of the many very successful MOCs which circulate on flickr and which had given me hope for a reproduction with the small onions of the station. spatial.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

Where the sets 10188 Death Star (2008) et 75159 Death Star (2016) are acceptable compromises because they try to preserve as best they can the general aspect of the place concerned, the set 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City doesn't even make that effort. The distribution and finish of the different spaces is debatable, with a landing platform for the Twin-Pod Cloud Car which probably did not deserve to occupy so much space and a somewhat minimalist reception room with its chairs placed on the floor. ...

I note that young fans aged 14 and over will be able to "have fun" re-enacting Han Solo's torture scene in the small, carefully furnished room. Even if the smuggler won't tell them anything because Darth Vader asks him absolutely no questions, they can simply give free rein to their sadistic impulses without their parents worrying more than reason.

I'm a little disappointed with the overall look of the set, in places it almost looks like a play space cobbled together by a young LEGO fan who hasn't yet mastered the art of finish and geometry, let alone the three-dimensional aspect of a reproduction. It's a bit flat, a few smooth plates are missing in some places, and there are way too many studs noticeable for my taste. at 350 € per box, I think we could legitimately expect a slightly higher level of finish.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

Note that it is impossible to move the whole in one piece, the platform for the Slave I and the freezing chamber are not fixed to the main structure. It is practical to store everything, a little less to move the City of Clouds in order to make dust or try to raise it a little by creating a single support that would be positioned in the center under the construction ...

No big surprise during the construction phases, the set rests on a brick-based cross and is stacking dotted with the laying of plates and the assembly of small elements that come to furnish the different spaces. You don't have to wait until you're 14 or be a masterbuilder to take advantage of this box. Go even if you're too young for LEGO or have big fingers ...

So here I am with a slightly misshapen playset that is content to pile up references to the various scenes that take place in the places. No removable panels that would cover the whole and reveal a particular scene depending on the mood of the day, it's a shame.

Le fan service wreaks havoc here, as if LEGO was afraid of forgetting something and missing sales ... The designers certainly watched the various scenes in slow motion so that they could reproduce every detail and not then be blamed by a horde of bloodthirsty fans the possible liberties they might have taken. So much the better for all those who are sensitive to this fidelity down to the most insignificant detail.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

Despite everything, you need a little imagination to recognize the City of Clouds with this assembly which does not take up its general form, nor architecture, nor the external appearance if we do not count the small set of parts placed symbolically. at the center of the construction.

Should we also use the name playsets for this box, the only real functionality being the mechanism which makes it possible to immerse Han Solo in the carbonite? I'm not counting the few movable doors and the secret hatch in the hangar, let's not exaggerate either.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

And this is where the attention to detail takes a hit. Upon closer inspection, we can see that LEGO didn't even bother to update Han Solo's figure in the carbonite sarcophagus to make it consistent with the hairstyle on the two minifigs provided, just us deliver the version already seen in the sets 8097 Slav I (2010) 9516 Jabba's Palace (2012) 75060 UCS Slave I (2015) et 75137 Carbon Freezing Chamber (2016). It's mean.

The mechanism which allows the minifig to be retracted and the sarcophagus to appear is well thought out, it works, it's fun for five minutes and it's less laborious than the system delivered in the set 75137 Carbon Freezing Chamber.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

In the description of the set, LEGO guarantees that "... Air combat between Boba Fett's Slave I ship and the Cloud Car Twin-Pod can be replayed with this set ...“I may have a bad memory, but I don't remember a clash between the two ships.

That being said, LEGO delivers two very compact interpretations of the ships in question here. You have to be careful to install their respective drivers. do not ask me why, LEGO insists with the red color for the Twin-Pod Cloud Car while the machine is obviously orange in the film.

On the one hand, the Cloud Car driver is a little cramped and on the other you have to orient the antenna of Boba Fett's helmet in the right position to be able to close the canopy of the Slave I. Some will find it cute and Chibi, others will find it barely acceptable. Tastes and colors cannot be discussed and we will do with it. Those who want a Slave I on a more consistent scale just have to invest in the set 75060 UCS Slave I marketed since 2015 and still available at € 219.99.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

On the minifig side, the fan service comes into action again in a very beautiful way with a slew of characters including Leia and Han Solo delivered in two versions (Hoth and Cloud City, we often change in Star Wars). Collectors will be in heaven, although in my opinion those who just line them up in Ikea frames should instead be getting their favorite retail characters on eBay or Bricklink.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

Once again, at 350 € a box, it's hard to gargle only on Lando Calrissian's pretty cape, Han Solo's legs with two-color molding, Lobot's new face, or the helmets of the Twin-Pod Cloud pilots. Because. These minifigs are great, but they don't do everything in a LEGO set of this stature. A good point, the inventory is rather complete, there is something to have fun and / or vary the staging.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

We will also notice the significant difference in color between Leia's torso and the bottom of her outfit or C-3PO's off-center eyes. Too bad that in 2018, a manufacturer whose job it is still does not know how to solve these problems.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

Luke Skywalker is delivered here with his right hand, you can obviously remove it to really replay the final scene of the duel (and put it back afterwards, it's LEGO, that's why).

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

The duel scene between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker deserved better than to be placed with forceps in a playset at 350 €. I hope that LEGO will deign one day to market a more affordable standard set reproducing this central scene of the saga. Other scenes, some of which are really anecdotal, have already had this honor ...

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

The specifications are respected here: This set brings together almost everything that makes the City of Clouds such an important place in the Star Wars saga. Perhaps it would have been more judicious to market several modular sets allowing to gradually reconstitute a City of the Clouds according to the desires of each one and the available budget.

LEGO has chosen to put everything in the same box, probably to get rid of the subject once and for all, at least for a few years. Many fans including yours truly will find their account there, exasperated that they were anyway by so much waiting to be able to finally declaim "No, I am your father"before knocking Luke down on the living room floor.

In the end, I say yes because it was about time that LEGO offered a new interpretation of Cloud City. While the set isn't the reproduction I dreamed of, it's an acceptable and comprehensive digest of what makes Cloud City such a key part of the Star Wars saga.

Note: The set shown here is put into play as usual. To participate in the raffle, simply post a comment on this article before September 26 at 23:59 p.m.. You have every right to disagree with me, this is not eliminatory.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

21/02/2018 - 00:06 In my opinion... Reviews

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

Better late than never, after a few twists and turns including a package sent to the wrong address (which the recipient was careful not to mention), I finally received and assembled the set LEGO Creator Expert 10256 Downtown Diner (2480 pieces - 159.99 €) which is simply called a Structure in authorized environments. Even if you have had plenty of time to form your own opinion on this set, I would like to take this opportunity to take a quick look at it, just to give you some very personal impressions (and to make someone happy).

When the first visuals of the set became available, fan reactions were mixed to say the least. Some already regretted the very classic design of the buildings which constitute, at the rate of one per year, this range of Modulars when others praised the designer's creative risk-taking. In the end, looking back, I think everyone agrees that this set is still aesthetically very successful.

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

That being said, it is therefore a Structure atypical (as on M6) with which it will obviously be impossible to play despite the many accessories piled up in the different spaces that compose it. Rare are those who will have fingers thin enough to place and move a minifigure inside the different spaces and having to remove a floor to play with the one below is nothing very exciting. There are much more suitable (and cheaper) products in the LEGO range.

As I have said in the past for a similar set, this is once again a pure showpiece full of details that only those who own it really know what's inside. and that we do not see.

The Modulars, it's like Ikea furniture, fans all have the same living room or the same city. Only the placement of the different pieces of furniture or buildings can bring a vaguely personal touch to the whole. A few minifigs staged on the sidewalk, a few vehicles in the streets and it's already one more step towards a truly personalized LEGO city.

Don't laugh, I know people who try to reproduce in their homes the living room seen in the nearest Ikea store and others who try to convince me that LEGO has defined a "official roster" some issues Modulars...

LEGO Creator Expert Modulars

The arrival of this Diner the 50s will therefore give all these a little austere towns a big blow and that is good news. It may be difficult for some to integrate this set in the context usually offered by other sets of the same barrel but the effort will undoubtedly be rewarded.

The most successful space in my eyes: the restaurant on the ground floor indicated by a sign that you will see from a distance and which gives its name to the set, with its original facade, its retro atmosphere and the multitude of details and accessories that help make it a true reproduction of what a Diner (Hollywood, I was not born ...) from the 50s could be. Grease, American Graffiti or to Saturday Night Fever, maybe at Back to the future and why not at Walk the Line, it depends.

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

Ce Diner is not very spacious, it is a bit overwhelmed by the counter flanked by red stools but everything is there, from the tiles to the jukebox, passing the benches with the well-padded backs. The large bay window makes it possible to distinguish what is going on inside, this is quite rare for a Structure. It is well seen.

The floor above is crowded. This gym accommodates a disproportionate ring which spoils the room a bit. We only see that, and given that in any case LEGO only provides us with one boxer, this ring which could have almost been the only "playable" space of the place is useless. The punching bag and weight bench are in turn a little cramped. The water dispenser is original, that's already it. Next.

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

The second floor is of little interest. It's ordinary, we know that it's a recording studio thanks to the presence of acoustic foam panels and some accessories, but it lacks personality to really convince. If I were slanderous, I would say the designer was already short of inspiration when he reached this level.

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

As usual with the Modulars, many very ingenious construction techniques are used, especially for the brick facade and the roof cornices. You will inevitably have the opportunity to marvel at some of them or to discover some tips that you may find useful for your personal creations. We don't get bored and that's a good thing.

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

Another characteristic of Modulars, the rear of the construction is much more sober than the facade. Only the presence of the ingenious staircase leading from the first to the second floor deserves to be mentioned. This is minimum service, but it is often also the case on real buildings, how can I blame LEGO ... I note in passing some subtle differences in color between the Duck Blue parts (Teal) which form the basis of the walls. Pity.

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

On the minifig side, LEGO provides six in this box. They have the merit of being finally equipped with faces a little more expressive than the basic heads usually provided in this range of sets. Some cried sacrilege when they discovered the first visuals of the set, LEGO sent them back to the ropes by invoking the right to do as they see fit. Still happy...

In the lot, only the boxer finds favor in my eyes because I find that he looks like Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrel).

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

Finally, LEGO provides a vehicle in this set. The machine vaguely resembles a 1959 Cadillac Convertible, with a passage through the box Chibi while retaining the possibility of putting some minifigs. It's a good compromise and it's in the theme, why not. Too bad for those who complain because LEGO "wastes parts on a car instead of stuffing the rooms in the building a little more"...

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

As I'm not the type to go into ecstasies over a new flower or a few leaves, just know that this set will allow you to get some new pieces. As a bonus, if you like Bleu Canard (Teal), you will have at your disposal an assortment of pieces in this color which, as we have said many times already, is making a comeback in the LEGO inventory.

In the end, what to think of this new Structure ? I want to end on a positive note by applauding with both hands the creativity implemented here to try to give a little pep to a range which still lacks a little even if the set 10232 Palace Cinema had already paved the way for more originality. It is high time that the LEGO city incorporated more original constructions than the usual age-old buildings.

LEGO Creator Expert 10260 Downtown Diner

You collect the Modulars, go for it. You like constructions that are a little more elaborate than stacked bricks, go for it. Do you need 159.99 € for something else? Keep your money. If you want to see it for real before you decide, head to a LEGO exhibit near you, there is always a town based on Modulars somewhere on a table.

Note: The set presented here, supplied by LEGO, is included in the game. To participate in the raffle, simply post a comment on this article before the February 28 at 23:59 p.m.. You have every right to disagree with me, this is not eliminatory.

01/02/2018 - 13:09 In my opinion... LEGO Ideas Reviews

LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle

It was an idea, LEGO made it a set. Is it absolutely necessary to make a set of all the ideas that find their audience on the LEGO Ideas platform? Nothing is less sure.

Initially, there is Jacob Sadovich, a LEGO fan who uploaded a project of bottle with a ship inside. The realization is not perfect but the idea is there. The project brings together the 10.000 required supports, it is validated by LEGO and therefore goes into production.

The result: the set LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle (69.99 €) with its 962 pieces, its bottle and its micro-galleon proudly displaying a coat of arms which nevertheless closely resembles the logo of a Strasbourg brewery.

Everything has already been said about this set. I will therefore content myself with raising a few points that seem important to me. For the guided tour, you will find dozens of reviews to the glory of this box elsewhere.

Let's get rid of the price issue right away: it's far too expensive. There it's done.

The purists of this art of building a boat IN a bottle should take no offense, here we build the boat BEFORE putting it in the bottle.

LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle

You can always try to convince me that this boat is successful, that it's LEGO, that it's because of the scale of the bottle, and that if I don't like it, I just have to build another one, etc ... It's crude and barely the level of a good polybag with this too rigid wing.

In fact, LEGO has reversed the rules of the game: in general, you put a pretty boat in a lambda bottle that simply serves as a case through which you can see the result of a particular know-how. Here, it's the opposite, the bottle is successful, its content is much less.

The LEGO designer who took over the file admits himself, the bottle of the initial project was too big. Its size logically dictates the scale of everything else and the boat pays the price.

LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle

When the micro-vessel is assembled, it is then a matter of fixing it in the bottle before closing the latter. Nothing complicated, this set will not require any special skills at this stage. It is when it comes to closing the bottle that things will get a little tough.

Further in the assembly phase, we therefore find the bottom of the bottle with the vessel firmly fixed to the wall and the upper part with the neck and the stopper that will have to be fixed to close everything. It's a bit laborious but you end up doing it with a little patience and not following the instructions that recommend fixing the neck before joining the two halves of the bottle.

Nice stopper by the way, with a wax seal which we will talk about later.

Watch out for fingerprints and scratches ...

The fourth panels 6x6x9, which are back in the LEGO inventory here and which form the top of the bottle, are delivered loose in the box without bag or protection. This results in some unsightly marks and traces that will annoy the most perfectionists.

LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle

Before finalizing the assembly of the bottle, do not forget to add the water, the waves, the waves. This crucial step here is simply to pour 284 round 1x1 plates, or nearly a third of the contents of the set, into the bottom of the construction.

Can pouring a set of parts into a container be considered a construction technique? It's up to everyone to decide, especially since this process has always been used by many OMCs. I find the technique very lazy even if I understand the intention on the part of LEGO to leave these elements their mobility to better embody what they represent: water.

Should it be specified that the bottle is not waterproof? If some hoped to be able to really fill it with some liquid, this is obviously not possible and it is normal.

LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle

The support which accommodates the bottle is successful. It is stable and the bottle is perfectly maintained. It is also the only element of the set with the stopper which brings a little construction pleasure thanks to some well thought out techniques that the buyers of the set will discover.

The only regret, once the bottle is in place, we no longer really see the compass (obviously fictitious) which is however the central element of the base which supports the construction. This compass is a good idea, but it is in the wrong place. So much pad printing effort for something barely visible, it's a shame.

LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle

It should also be noted that the wax seal attached to the ingenious cap bears the initials ... of the LEGO designer Tiago Catarino who took over the project.

Jacob Sadovich will not have had the honor of seeing his idea greeted by this detail. It's a shame, he deserved at least to leave a personal mark in this set, beyond his signature on the packaging on the occasion of different events that allow to meet him and the page dedicated to him in the instruction booklet.

It will remain "the one who had the idea"and he will be able to console himself with the royalties on the sales. Flattering his ego in a nice way was not on the program.

LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle

In short, you will understand, this set leaves me a little indifferent even if I welcome the originality of the product which has its place in a range called LEGO Ideas. Bravo for the bottle, very realistic, too bad for the boat. I wish I could have said the opposite.

I note in passing that the assembly areas of the transparent parts hinder the visibility of the contents of the bottle from certain angles. You will tell me that this is normal, because it is LEGO and not glass. And you will be right. It's up to you to find the perfect place to display this set, with the right lighting.

I am not a collector of references from the LEGO Ideas range, nor a retired former sailor, and the concept developed here will therefore never find its place in my living room. Even though I'm a LEGO fan, this set is still way too kitsch for me. I will skip the same way if LEGO one day offers us a stuffed boar's head to hang on the wall because I don't have a chalet in the mountains or a hunting cabin.

LEGO Ideas 21313 Ship in a Bottle

For those who will acquire it, this set is also a good starting point to do something sexier. At the cost of some modifications, the fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga can for example try to give a little cachet to the whole by transforming it into a beautiful tribute to the Black Pearl:

black pearl bottle

It's up to you to get creative, the bottle can accommodate whatever you want: another micro-boat, micro-spaceship, minifigs on a micro-raft, etc ... As long as it fits.

You can even extend the experience by filling the bottle with different layers of 1x1 plates in different colors for a more modern effect on the Ikea dresser. It's up to you.

Otherwise, you can also prank your friends in the evening:

The LEGO Ninjago Movie 70608 Master Falls

A bridge, some rocks, a bamboo cage, a river and two scorpions, this is the box The LEGO Ninjago Movie 70608 Master Falls, with its false pre-movie set airs, its 312 pieces, its 3 minifigs (and a skeleton), and its retail price of € 29.99.

You saw it in the second trailer of the film which gives us a glimpse of the scene reproduced in this LEGO box, here is the simplified version of the bridge on which Garmadon and Sensei Wu clash, with perhaps the key to a unenviable fate for the old sage with pants off.

Once again, LEGO kept only the essentials and transformed the film bridge into a simple strip of nougat-colored caterpillars stretched between two rocky peaks incorporating a few meta-pieces. It's minimalist, but we'll do with it. Everything is symbolic in this set: the river, the vegetation, the ruins, the rocks ... There is a bit of everything but above all too little of each element.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie 70608 Master Falls

The LEGO Ninjago Movie 70608 Master Falls

The set will probably find its place in a "house" jungle and perhaps provide a few hours of play for young fans of the Ninjago universe even if I have the impression that when choosing between something that flies and who throws bombs and this bridge, the young fan will move towards other sets.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie 70608 Master Falls

There are two blue Technic pins on the bridge, to easily stage two minifigs without them falling. Why blue, I don't know.

The railing of the bridge is summed up here in an alignment of a few pieces which hang in the void. They are not even connected to the deck floor. It's almost aesthetic but not very functional. You will spend time aligning the pieces that make up this railing, it will keep you busy.

Integration of three color microfigs Tan in the ruins does not save the furniture, but it is still taken.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie 70608 Master Falls

The minifig collector will find here something to fill his Ikea frame inexpensively with Garmadon in "Jungle" outfit, the usual version of Sensei Wu and the young haired Kai.

Something definitely bothers me about Kai, probably the fact that he seems to have lost his way under an Italian ice cream machine ...

70608 master falls lego ninjago movie minifigs

70608 master falls lego ninjago movie minifigs back

"Jungle" Garmadon is here decked out with a "camouflage" epaulet that struggles to hide its strong hairiness and that we will probably see again equip some less festive custom minifigs very quickly.

The skeleton holds a map in its hand that leads from Destiny's Bounty to the Temple of the set 70617 Temple of The Ultimate Ultimate Weapon passing through the bridge in question. This card is also logically present in the set 70618 Destiny's Bounty since the boat is according to the drawing the starting point of the quest which leads to the temple.

70608 master falls lego ninjago movie bad

70608 master falls lego ninjago movie bad back

I am far from sharing the enthusiasm found in other "reviews" about this box. The bridge bears little resemblance to the one in the movie, and while I can understand LEGO's desire to provide a solid and playable set, it's visually very, very far from the reference scene. The use of caterpillar elements seems to me to be more laziness than creative genius.

This set could possibly come to complete the temple of the reference 70617 but it will be difficult to be sufficient on its own. Even putting the whole thing together isn't very exciting. A good point for the bamboo cell which will occupy you five minutes, the time to correctly align the bars that compose it.

In short, I pass. This set is a starter product that does not appeal to me much.

Note: We do as usual, you have until August 14, 2017 to manifest yourself in the comments.
