Today we quickly take a tour of the LEGO Marvel What If ...? 76201 Captain Carter & The Hydra Stomper, a small box of 343 pieces which will be marketed from August 1st at the public price of € 29.99.

Those who follow already know, this set is inspired by the Marvel animated series What If ...? whose 10 episodes of the first season will begin on August 11 on Disney +. This series features alternate continuities in which the events of the Marvel universe unfold differently from those of the usual timeline. We therefore find in this set a scene that is not in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Peggy Carter who becomes Captain Carter after an injection of the Super Soldier serum and Steve Rogers at the controls of a green Hulkbuster.

The mech appears on the poster used for the promotion of the series and we can also see it in some captures of the first episode. As often, the LEGO version is a little rough and the designers of Billund probably had to be satisfied with a few very preliminary artworks to work on this product derived from the series, the distribution of which has not yet started.

The robot is not a model that revolutionizes the genre, the joints based on Ball Seals offer only a very limited range of movements and the finish is barely correct. The model still looks good and apart from the junction between the shoulders and the forearms which is a little too visible and fragile, the rest of the joints are well integrated. No knees, that's the rule at LEGO. The mech's helmet, based on the epaulet already used in the set 76190 Iron Monger Mayhem (2021) or for Molten Man and Venom, comes to fall back on the face of Steve Rogers, it is well realized even the connection of the helmet on the body of the mech is a little fragile.

Otherwise, the robot's hands cannot hold much with their palms too prominent, but the mech is stable on both feet. Steve Rogers can take place in the bust of the robot but he has no piloting interface, not even two controllers. We will remember the presence of a Plate 1 x 2 phosphorescent integrated on the torso of the mech.

LEGO provides a relatively large sheet of stickers for a set of this size, the different stickers of which add an additional shade of green to the robot.

On the side of the three minifigs provided in this box, there is something to please collectors a little tired of the multiple variants of Spider-Man and Iron Man that abound in the LEGO Marvel range, with two characters in totally different versions. unpublished.

Captain Carter benefits from a very nice torso and a very successful pad printing shield. The head used here is that of Nymphadora Tonks seen in the LEGO Harry Potter set 75980 Attack on the Burrow and which will also be Xialing's in the LEGO Shang-Chi set 76177 Battle at the Ancient Village.

LEGO could have provided Steve Rogers with a pair of legs dressed in patterns matching those of the torso, it will be necessary to be satisfied with a neutral element. The character's head is that of Han Solo, Hawkeye or even Cédric Diggory, the hair is that of Owen Grady but it has already been used for Captain America in other boxes.

Red Skull is not unpublished, the head and the torso were already in the set 76166 Avengers Tower Battle (2020) and the two elements are here associated with the legs of General Hux, Nick Fury and a few other characters from the LEGO Harry Potter range. The Tesseract finally takes the form of an element more believable than the usual part even if the Minecraft figurine head here transparent may seem a little disproportionate.

We're not going to lie, the set will interest fans for the two new minifigs it contains. The mech does not demerit, but it is a very rough representation of the subject treated which would perhaps have been more appropriate with an olive green color for the whole of the armor.

LEGO today unveils the set 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van, a box of 2207 pieces which will be sold at the public price of 159.99 € from August 1, 2021.

Longtime fans are bound to remember the set 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van (1334 pieces - 99.99 €), marketed in 2011, which then made it possible to assemble the first version of the famous combi sold from 1950 to 1967 with its two-part windshield.

This new box proposes to build the second version of this mythical vehicle with its one-piece windshield (baywindow) sold between 1967 and 1979.

The steering is functional, the roof tent integrated in this Westfalia version can be lifted and completely removable to allow access to the interior of the vehicle, the sliding side door is rather well done, the kitchen is fitted out with storage, a refrigerator , a sink and a stove, fabric curtains are installed inside and the Combi comes with a surfboard and two folding sunbeds. A large sheet of stickers allows you to switch the machine to hippie mode if that makes you happy. Vehicle dimensions: 35cm long, 14cm wide, 15cm high.

Let's face it, if the 2011 version was relatively faithful to the real T1 and remains to this day one of the most successful LEGO vehicles, I find that this new Combi only vaguely resembles the reference model. The comparison photos between the real T2 and the LEGO version provided by the manufacturer are not all to the advantage of the toy and from certain angles, one has a little the impression of rather dealing with an East German Barkas B1000 or a Czechoslovakian Skoda 1203 than a Volkswagen T2.

Those who have followed the entire LEGO CON 2021 "convention" will certainly remember that during one of the sequences, LEGO proposed to vote for one of the three proposed Minecraft skins in order to determine which one would pass to posterity by becoming an official minifig of the LEGO Minecraft range in 2022.

It was then a question of choosing between the Ninja, the Warrior and the Ranger and unsurprisingly, it is the Ninja who wins with 56.4% of the votes.
